PBW Problem - Combat Replay
Has anyone had problems with Combat Replay in PBW?
I'm in the Survivor 2 tournament and cannot replay the battle that occurred in the most recent turn and which I apparently won. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Combat Replay works well when I play solo against the computer's AI. The message I get is in the Survivor 2 game is: Quote:
The files extracted are: Survivor2rd1.gam Survivor2rd1_Combat.cmb Survivor2rd1_log.trn Geoschmo says he is able to play the the battle on his machine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif I have a year old P4 with XP which has been working well. Survivors 2 is a SE4 gold 1.78 game. Any thoughts or suggestions? [ September 09, 2002, 22:27: Message edited by: tbontob ] |
Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
i have had that problem before. people have suggested re-downloading, but i have had combat replay problems in singleplayer too.
wait, i take that back. combat replay always works fine. i have problems with MOVEMENT replay. |
Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
This may just be a typo, but your error Messages is looking for a file called survivors while you extracted files called survivor without the 's'

Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
All save games should be in the save directory.... If you create additonal directories off the root of save you will see this error. I had that happen for months since i like to directory everything... and no since i store all saves and related files in the root save directory this problem has gone away..
Try it and see if it works |

All my games are saved in c:\My Games\Space Empires IV Gold\NAME OF GAME FILE. "NAME OF GAME FILE" are a number of files including "savegame" and "Survivors 2". In other words the path to "savegame" would be c:\My Games\Space Empires IV Gold\savegame and the path to "Survivors 2" would be c:\My Games\Space Empires IV Gold\Survivors 2 I don't think this is significant but in the warning, some of the words are not capitalized whereas in the path to the file, they are. |

Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
\Space Empires IV Gold\Savegame
is where i drop all my save games before i had \Space Empires IV Gold\Savegame\game1 \Space Empires IV Gold\Savegame\game12 etc.. and i had the combat problems For movement problems... you have to have the previous turn opened on that computer. IE... if you play a turn at work and then a turn at home make sure you open the turn from home next day at work...and then save it... And then open the current turn.... Hope that helps... ( thanks geo for the movement log solution ) |

Many thanx tesco
Your reply gave me an idea. Unzipping the compressed file gives me the file Quote:
And it worked! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif I would think that the program would look for the combat file in the same Survivor 2rd1_14 folder where it found the data for the turn. But apparently it doesn't. It is a workaround which works but is kinda messy. Does anyone have a better solution? [ September 11, 2002, 20:10: Message edited by: tbontob ] |
Re: PBW Problem - Combat Replay
I keep a seperate folder for each PBW game. I then use the MOD Launcher utility to start SEIV and load the game.
The advantages are: I do not change the stock SEIV data, empire, or race picture files. So I can play different MODs without them conflicting with each other. The MOD launcher remembers your Player number and password. My PBW game folders are easy to maintain. Since I have more than one SE4 Version on my machine, I can upgrade the game by simply dragging the game folder over to the newer SE4 Versions folder. I have a seperate MODlauncher in each SE4 Version folder. I'm not at home so I can not give you all of the details of the game folder. 1. It has a savegame folder 2. It may have a picture/race etc.. folders for the custom shipsets. Note: There is no need to copy the stock shipsets. 3. It may have a data folder or other folders needed for a MOD. 4. Since it is PBW and your not the host, you will likely not need the Empire folder or the custom RACE AI that comes with custom shipset. 5. Good Idea to keep a text file with your password, and other players names, emails, empire names, and shipsets. -------------------------------------------- OK, now to get my ZIP files open into the save game folder... (setup is WIN98 + WINZIP + MOD Launcher) ...Warning ...start QS9000 procedure... 1. Save attachment game.zip to desktop. 2. Open Save game folder 2a. Right click on MOD Launcher Icon 2b. Click on Properties. 2c. Click on Find Target. It opens a folder window. 2d. Now close the MOD launcher properties window before you do something wrong to it. 2e. open the game folder 2f. open the the savegame folder. 3. Drag the game.zip file into the savegame folder. 4. Right click on the game.zip file and select "extract to". 5. Click on "browse" 6. click on OK 7. click on Extract 8. click on ALL to overwrite all old files. 9. Now you can left click on the MOD Launcher. As with all QS9000 procedures, explanations and warnings are not allowed and you must follow the instructions explicitly. If it does not work with your setup then you must blindly follow the QS9000 winzip setup procedure MX2233874.BFG... [ September 11, 2002, 21:15: Message edited by: Wardad ] |

The game files have to be in a directory/folder/file called "Savegame" and this "Savegame" folder/file/directory must be in the same folder/file/directory with the se4.exe executable program. You can browse to a different directory as you said ang get the .gam file, but it will not look there for the .cmb files. It will look in the folder/file/directory named "Savegame". You can do what Wardad suggests if you like and then keep your game files all separate. That is not a bad solution. You need ot use the modpicker or modify the path.txt file to get it to work though. And you still need to have the files in a folder/file/directory called "Savegame", but it will be under the mod folder instead of in the same folder/file/directory with the se4.exe program file then. Hmmmmmmmm.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Two points: 1) No one actually said clearly to ditch the holding file in which the data files are housed. 2) In playing against the AI, the computer does not look at the "savegame" file to replay the battle. Is this schizophrenic behaviour or what? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Another area where the Mac is so clearly superior... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif What's that? What are you guys throwing at me? cabbages, tomatoes, turnips? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif |
