PBW down

The server is down. the whole city got hit with a momenty power glitch of some kind and we are having a little trouble getting it working right. The hardware is up and all, so I don't anticipate any long downtime. Some sort of file error, something got corrupted. We are working on it. It may be down all day though. If it's down more than a few hours I will turn off autoprocessing before bringing it back up so nobody misses there turns or anything.

Hope it's back Online soon.

Ok folks. Sorry to say it but it's looking like this is a bit more serious than I first thought. We may be down for a couple days.

The good news is that your turns will not process without you, and all indications are the data is sound. I don't expect we will lose any games or anything. It's just going to take a little time to figure out exactly what is causing the problem. Once we get it everything shuld be back to normal.

no, squirrels are far more problematic examples of rodentia than mice..

You can hear the little buggers as they chew through your cables, "neep neep neep" the little furry swine go "neep neep neep" as they twitch their little noses at you and then flirt those ridiculous furry tails

bastardos, the lot of them

In some countries, they showcase squirrels in zoos. In some countries, squirrels are national symbols of folklore. In some countries, seeing a squirrel is almost equivalent to seeing an angel.

In some countries, squirrels come into your house, desecrate your living room and eat crackers.

Death to the squirrel.

Dang! I have a feeling this is my fault! I told Geoschmo that I was gonna donate some money to him for the PBW site, using my wife's PayPal account. But being the slackard I am, I put it off. He ain't got squirrels or rats. It's gremlins! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif They jumped from my computer into his.

http://www.vidavision.com/entertainm...gremlins-2.jpg

Don't believe me? Just ask Stripe. He got all pissed about being killed off in the PBW game "Junkyard Wars II". He is swearing vengeance, and I think he had a hand in it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

http://www.vidavision.com/entertainm...s/gremlin2.jpg

Seriously, I have 2 computers at home, and 8 in my office. This week, I lost 2 hard drives, 2 mother Boards, and a CDROM drive for no darn reason! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif That repair bill is getting expensive! Now what do you think the problem is? Ain't no darn squirrels, their too busy gathering nuts for the cold winter here in the states. My problems stopped mid-morning, about the time I could no longer access the PBW site. I had took the covers off all my computer cases today and didn't find a single one. They were now on the prowl. When I got home, I fully expected to find the dog hanging outside and the cat in the washing machine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif But to my surprise, all was in order. Now I just read what happened on PBW. I know it's them, because he is in Ohio, and I'm in Indiana. That ain't to far for those critters to travel ina day.

I'm sorry, Geoschmo, hope you can forgive me. I'll throw in a little extra cash when you get the server back up. Honestly! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Guess I will use this time to reaquaint myself with my family. Maybe I will actually seriously make my own Gremlin shipset. Found some help at this site.

Assume you have a 1kg squirrel
E=mc^2
E=1kg(3x10^8m/s)^2=9x10^16J
which, if I'm not mistaken, is equivilent to roughly a 50 megaton nuclear bomb.
Fear the squirrel.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ahhhh...but assume the squirrel eats 20 grams of peanuts (about 3/4 of an ounce)

By my calculations:

E=(1/50kg)(3x10^8m/s)^2=9x10^16J
which, if I'm not mistaken, is equivilent to roughly a 1 megaton nuclear bomb.

The squirrel should fear the peanut! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

PBW Down...

There is an unbearable emptiness in my soul. I shall sit here staring blankly into the empty vacuum of my laptop.

By the way my $20 is out the door today, out of nothing but guilt for not having acted sooner. Perhaps if we have all acted in time, we could have had the exterminators on scene to prevent this travesty.

George, I would like to sent you 20 grams of peanuts. Errr..no, acorns? Oh, you know what I mean!

In a previous thread (PBW needs you!), I vaguely remember you giving the payee for the cheque as "Mr. George Perley" and your address. Let's see if I can remember...

Mr. George Perley
20 Acorn Grove
Acornville, ND
United States of Acorn

No, that doesn't seem right...

Mr. George Perley
30 Squirrel Runway
Squirrelville, ND
United Squirrels of America.

No, that also doesn't seem right....

George, why don't you give us your address, so that us slackards will have no excuse for not sending you a cheque if we do not like paypal.

Hey guys, George is not asking for much! $5.00, if we can spare it (see "PBW needs you!"). For those who have not read it, I'll bump the thread to the top of the list.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You know actually I have been pricing those the Last couple of days. What were you looking to get for it? A good backup regimen would have made this a little less painful. It's on the priority list to get taken care of once we are back up and running.

We hope to have it back up by Monday. Can't be certain. Something in the code got fouled up and we are scrambling trying to fix it.

Geo, I have a spare iomegazip 100Mo here.
If you want it for PBW, I can send it by postmail. If you are interested, send me an email with your post adress at arthur.middleton@tetragone.fr
Got a few cartriges with it as well.

All that is not used anymore since I make backups on RW cdroms.

ooops forgot to tell : it's an USB device.

LAST NEW : I also have a cd-writer. The problem we had with it is that cd-rom written with it could only be read from this device. So for our business it became useless. But we never had these problems with RW-cdrom, which could be read from any device. Should you need it it is yours as well.

I will donate it to the cause. Been meaning to send some $ in via paypal once I get caught up on things (7 months unemployed! - started back to work 9/3) but I can do that much sooner in lieu of cash if you'd like it.

I only have one tape for it, but there's nothing wrong with it. It just doesn't work with Arkeia unfortunately.

E-mail me direct an address and I'll ship it out when I get a chance to bring that svr down - might be a couple of weeks though.
