I've been following the development of this one for some time. It's a labor of love, one man show. I heard somewhere that one man design teams can produce some good stuff. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Kinda OT for OT, but does anyone remember an old Amiga game that was based on a turn based/top down view BattleTech game? Can't remember the name, but it was a one man show and the best BattleTech game simulation I had seen, though not quite the thrill of the 3D Mechwarrior series.

Mechforce?

On the same idea: Megamek. A BT port to the computer- and unlike all the other BT ports out there, this one actually got to the playable stage! BT, not Dark Age. Thankfully.
http://www.megamek.com/

Also Titans of Steel. Said it was based on the game you mentioned above..it's essentially a clone of BT with some different elements. It is also NOT turnbased, but not real time either.

You give your orders, which take a certain amount of time. When a unit finishes an order, you can give it another one. Meanwhile every other unit is doing the same thing; the overall effect is like real time, but without the stress. Nothing moves while you give an order, no time passes. Long periods where units are doing nothing are just skipped over instantly, and you zoom ahead to the next order.

I always wander why there are no games based on Stargate (SG-1). At least I don't know any. SG-1 can give nice background for FPS, RTS or RPG games !

Re: OT-Some New games

Maybe because the first half of the game would be really good... and then some one would say... Lets rap this up now... People are thinking out there and enjoying this... Bring in the explosions and and get rid of the story....

Sorry, my soccer loving friends, but this is American football. Besides, you have Championship Manager, which might be the very best sports text simulation ever created!

I've been watching WiF ("World in Flames")computer game for about 2 years now.

http://www.a-d-g.com.au/

Go to above site and follow the links to the beta download page. It's starting to look really cool. They're going to release it without an AI opponent in first phase. At least that's the word I heard a while ago.

I have about 5 editions of the board game going back to the mid '80's I used to love it, played solitare for months at a time. My wife hated it though. I had to put it away so we could use the dining room table for Thanksgiving, lol!

I think that was the original name, or Battle force, I know they were forced to change the name at some point.

Re: OT-Some New games

I ran across a new Online game today; the premise looks interesting, particularly to those of you who like role-playing their empires. There doesn't seem to be much in the way of micromanaging - no detailed ship building, no detailed combat, etc. It's been billed as a sci-fi Version of Diplomacy... anyway, go check it out if you want; the main page doesn't give a lot of detail, but the message Boards have some good info along with the link to the help (rules) page:

main page for Ultimate Galaxy Online game

Help/rules page for Ultimate Galaxy

Oh, for those who like to know these things up front, the pricing structure is US$4.95 for the first month & US$9.95 each month after that.

Re: OT-Some New games

Some days ago, surfin' on the Net, I came to a site of an Online rpg and science fiction game called "Faction Earth".
I read carefully the background storygame: it's huge and I easily say it's one of the best and interesting I've ever seen.
"Faction Earth" is a truly great game that mixes "The Matrix", "Blade Runner" and "X-Files" all in one......and it's amazing how the development team are really dedicated to the community! (like our beloved guys of MM and Shrapnel)
You don't need to buy any software: the download is free, the game runs through a client and it costs 1.99 U.S. $ for the 1st month and then 3.99 $ every month.
Now it's a few days I play "Faction Earth" but I must admit it's an amazing game and I'm completely addicted: before, only "SEIV Gold" has addicted me as "FE".
Do you a favor and go to visit the game site:

Whatever MM is working on next...
but other than that, I want SimCity 4. The Sims Online sounds neat, but I have never paid for Online games, and I really do not care to. I may at some time (when I have a job maybe!)

Re: OT-Some New games

Some news for you "game addicted". http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
X-Mas is coming so I have some suggestions.....today let's talk about 2 great games: "A.R.S.E.N.A.L. Extended Power" and "Simgangster Street Edition".
I've played wargames for 20 years and I can assure you that ARSENAL Extended Power is one of the best.
ARSENAL is a classic RTS game but it's different from others....think that I'm not a RTS fan (I'm tired of Command and Conquer clones) but I've been completely hooked by this little game gem.
The A.I. is truely impressive: on the advanced stages is a real nightmare.
Every few days you can download a bunch of add-ons so the game will surprise you everytime you'll play it.
ARSENAL is really a G R E A T game: it worths every single buck! Two thumbs up, way up. Here's the site for ARSENAL: http://www.tacticalsoft.com/
"Simgangster" is a pretty simulation of crime life: you are a criminal and you have to survive in a U.S. city.
There are different cities (with different settings) so the game will hook you everytime.
Pretty graphics and cool gameplay makes "Simgangster" a winner, give it a try at http://www.simgangster.com ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Did not read the entire thread, so EEEXCUUUSEE MEEEE if I am repeating, but has anyone seen Hegemonia from the makers of Imperium Galactica? It looks so cool to me that I went out and got it. I will install and play this weekend and post here my thoughts. Here -->is the link.

I'm looking forward to SimCity 4. I think it's going to be a good game from the stuff I've seen and read. Too bad that I'll need a faster processor...but maybe Santa will be nice to me this year.

Re: OT-Some New games

I looked at that "EVE: The Second Genesis" game... some very interesting points in their storyline... such as:
Quote:

...scientists predicted that EVE would close in a few decades. So men and equipment were ferried to the other side, setting up bases in the system the wormhole opened up in. The system was soon christened New Eden. The two gates at either side, called the gates of EVE, had to be exceedingly huge, because of the unstable nature of EVE and the unknown distance between them. They were the largest single structures ever made by mankind and the building time was more than 200 years...
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">WOW! not only do they have warp engines, but they can do a neato temporal warp trick so they can take 200 years to build something to utilize something that will not exist in a few decades! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

(edit) - Hmm, it seems I got caught up in that little ambiguity, and forgot to say what I thought of the concept. Definitely looks cool, and I definitely will not be playing it. I have no interest in flunking college, especially with the amount I'm paying to go. I will probably be keeping my copy of SEIV at home when I bring a computer here, too.

This isn't a computer game but it's one I am looking forward to. It's Final Fantasy X-2... Yup, X-2, it's the first ever TRUE sequel to a game in the FF history. It's supposed to pick up two years after X left off. I'm currently playing through FFX again. It's such a great game.

But for computer games I'm looking forward to that Eve game. It looks awesome.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I did indeed, it has all the eye candy you would expect from the screenshots and trailers viewable on their website. The story line seems to be OK, if not slightly linear. I have only successfully played 2 missions, so it is still a little early for a complete review.
