Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

I am interested in setting up a Star Wars versus Star Trek PBW game. I'm thinking 4 SW races and 4 of the main ST races. Treaties between SW or ST races only (no SW-ST treaty). Victory when only SW or ST races are left. FQM Realistic midlife, medium size, 3000 racial, 3 planet start, 36 hour turns, anyone else interested?

EDIT - I have created the game on PBW, so if your interested, go sign up! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Here's the info;

A rip in the space/time continium has hurled the Federation, Klingons, Romulans, and Borg into a strange galaxy far from Federation space. At the very same moment the Galactic Empire, Rebel Alliance, Trade Federation, and Jedi Order, all find themselves in an equally strange galaxy. Now the 8 races must explore this new galaxy, colonize and build, seek out their former enemies to form a bond against the unknown. Is this some kind of warped test, the amusement of a higher power? These and other questions remain unanswered as it is now time to survive.

Starting resources: 20000
Starting planets: 3
Home planet value: Average
Score display: allied
Technology level: Low
Racial points: 3000
Quadrant type: FQM Realistic Midlife
Quadrant size: Medium
Event frequency: Low
Event severity: High
Technology cost: Medium
Victory conditions: Team victory between Star Wars and Star Trek races.
Maximum units: 2000
Maximum ships: 500
Computer players: None
Computer difficulty: N/A
Computer player bonus: N/A
Neutral empires: No
Other game settings: I would like dedicated players who have a genuine interest in playing out a game like this. I'm looking for a semi-RP game with only SW-SW and ST-ST type treaties.

Turn duration: 36 hours
Turn automation: Fully automatic turns (key)
SE4 Version: Stock v1.78 (Gold Patch 2)

odd idea? YES. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

I, by no means, intend for this to be a "realistic" or "canon" type of game. I think, for me, it is more about the eye candy of Star Wars ships against Star Trek ships, with a little of the individual philosophies to go along.

Interesting? Yes
FUN? Absolutely!

I thought the Eye candy was reveresed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif and Maybe add another touch:

(Feddie & Klingoffs) against (Star wars and Romulans & Cardassians)

(Romulans & Cardassians) Against (Star wars and Fed)

(Jedi and rebel) Against (ST and Sith/Empire)

and so on...?

I just signed in as the Hapans.
Not one of the races you listed, but it's a valid starwars culture and another half-made shipset I have.
(I'm the Jedi in two other games and I keep confusing them, adding a third would only worsen it)

AFAIK the FQM is only used to generate the map and you will not need to have it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Correct, only the game host needs FQM to generate the map. Then he sends game files to us all and we have the map with that.

I posted this in the forum but I thought I'd post here just in case you (Gandalph) are not checking the forum.
Is Intel going to be allowed for this game? I'd like to find out before I create my emp file as if it is not it could save me alot of recial points taking it down to 50%.

I will be starting a game settings topic at the game forum to discuss this and other settings. We could still use 2 more players. If you're interested, go sign up.

One final Star Wars player needed to get this game going. Any Star Wars race not already taken would be fine, I will just change the description to match.

Players already signed up, there is now a game settings thread on the game forum, go have a look.

Come on people... We need one more player to get this thing going... It's a star wars race. Pick any Star Wars race that hasn't been used already. This should be a fun and interesting rp game.

Umm Gandalph. I just tried to do my turn and I can't play it because it's saying data files don't match. That's with stock 1.78. What's up with that? Are you using a mod that you didn't tell us to download?
NVM, just got it, you have to use FQM for it to work. Might wnat to let everyone know that.

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

Comfirmed

I think it's because of this, the FQM was not uptated after Last patchs and now there is a difference in components.txt:
Descriptions of shields were not updated, they now say "Generates [%ShieldPointsGenerated] shield points." to allow the eventual addition of shield mounts.
Also the description of the Massive Ship Mount was changed in it respective file

BTW I keep promising I'll post my shipset soon

It doesn't matter IF the map is generated and then loaded using another mod. But if the game owner uses FQM to set up the game itself, not just make the map, you'll need to use it for the game.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ah, so that's the reason. As I stated in the game news, I had this happen in another PBW game I set up and this would explain why. However, also like I stated in the game news, after the first turn we are able to run the game from the standard savegame folder.

"However, also like I stated in the game news, after the first turn we are able to run the game from the standard savegame folder."

Which means you have PBW told to use standard SE4; this is the same thing you use when switching Versions of mods, or upgrading to a new patch for that matter.

I run my savegame out of the regular seiv folder... But I open it after I use the modpicker to open FQM, I don't use the samegame folder IN the FQM folder.

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

Hmm... that is a problem. Guess I'll have to get that fixed up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

If the components.txt file in FQM and the normal game were the same, then creating a game using FQM would not cause problems. The game would be loadable with the normal game.

Is the game a 4 on 4 team game with the ST/SW races, or is it every man for himself?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">It is 4 on 4 teams, SW vs ST. Starting positions were random, so you may have started next to an enemy or a friend. You are on your own until you meet up with a partner.

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

Consequences of missing a turn.
Has anyone seen this before?
It looks like my previous turn wasn't processed.

I had succesfully emailed it and recieved the confirmation, also according to the PBW site it was processed correctly. So my guess is that I has accidentally exited without ending turn, so the turn I had sent was an older one.

Changes in orders weren't made, some ships were I was triying to mass were ordered to scatter, the usual stuff in cases like these. One queue set on emergency build was left empty, and another was prematurely changed to slow.
Yes it's a delay but nothing that cannot be undone or that jeopardizes my strategies, specially since it's only 2401.2
I even like some of the orders the AI gave to new colony ships.

A first contact I had made Last turn appears in the news now, good.
One of the players had offered me a gift, I had attempted to accept it but aparently the AI didn't think it was worth it.

And this is what concerns me:
Now I see I cannot send him a message since I had a "Message Sent" from the beggining of the turn (the politics minister is of course off)

"AI should not make changes to the empire..." wasn't on (now it is) but I don't think that was related to this problem.

Gandalph, can you confirm what answer AI gave you, and if this turn I'm sending you another message (that will have to wait till nex one of course).

capnq November 2nd, 2002 11:10 PM

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

All of that is normal; uploading the wrong turn's player file has the same effect as missing the turn. The AI will play that turn for you, reply to diplomatic Messages, etc. even if you turned off all ministers and turned on "AI doesn't make changes in simultaneous games" in Empire Options.

That setting not working is why Geo made the "No AI" mod for PBW.

Andrés November 3rd, 2002 01:31 AM

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

Yes I know AI played in that turn, including politcs decitions and message answering.

I'm talking about the turn after here.
I think there is some message delay feature that shows news I missed now, and that is good.
But it has a bug since I see message sent in the policis window and cannot send a message this turn.
Otherwise another message was actually sent this turn, perhaps AI controls Lasts until the beggining of this turn.

Gandalph November 3rd, 2002 02:04 AM

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

This is interesting as I have set this game with the "No AI Mod". I am not exactly sure what that does, only that it was supposed to prevent things like this from happening. I will check with PBW Admin to verify the "No AI Mod" is indeed in place.

Andres - I will let you know what the AI said when I get my next turn.

Andrés November 3rd, 2002 09:37 PM

Re: Star Wars vs Star Trek PBW Game

Well, what happened? Did AI refused the gift and then sent another message the next turn?
