Finaly starting to PBW - games in progress, password issue
 

So yes, i've listened to the people here and went and joined a couple of in-progress games. Now i change the password and download the turn and the game tells me the pass is wrong. whats wrong?

If so, that only tells the game owner that I've changed my password to think, methinks.

You need to use change password in the game in the empires panel to change it for the game.

i've used the little button... how can i change the pass ingame if i dont know the original pass in first place?

If you sign up as a replacement player, you should get an email with the empire password. If that password does not work, then the previous player changed it and didn't tell the game owner or PBW. At that point, you can either get in touch with the previous player for the password, or have the game owner change the password.

hrm, im dumb. i've changed my e-mail but havent updated the account at SEIVPBW.

So wait a sec, that change password thing on PBW is completely useless? or if not waht is it for then?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">When you sign up for a game on PBW it asks you for the empire password. It doesn't need this password to run the turns. This password is only used for two things. One is if you ever leave the game, when a replacment player takes over he gets an email telling him what the password is. Without that he can't play the turns. The New guy would have to contact you and get the password, or if you don't answer the game owner would have to reset the password, which would mean the AI has to play a turn in control of the empire.

Your actual empire password is the one you gave SE4 when you created your empire. You have to have this to be able to open and play your turns. You can change it through the empire options screen. If you change it, or if you gave PBW the wrong password to begin with, a replacment player would have problems taking over for you.

In the past players had no way to change their password on PBW. SO we added the change password button so they can do that.

Oh, the other thing the password is used for is Real Time Client.

Ok now i am completely lost. I've joined another game and got the pass and cannot log in. rejoined the two other games and got the pass to which i've changed it before using the Change Pass button... to no effect, still Incorrect Password.

Maybe it is because the account i use dates back to about '00 or so?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">The date of your account is irrelevant for the purposes of the empire passwords used in any of the games you are in.

When u join a PBW game that is in progress you will receive via email the empire password for that empire. This is the password that the previous player has told PBW the password is. If for some reason the password has been changed (this is done inside SEIV) AND the password recorded on PBW has not been updated to reflect any changes to the password, then the password sent to your email will be incorrect and you cannot log into that empire

The only solution in that case is to either email the previous empire owner and find out what the new password is, or get the game owner to log into the game turn and manually reset your empires password (you will miss 1 game turn because of this process)
