What to do with Nebulae Systems
Hello all,
I am a newbie to SEIV- Gold and was wondering what to do with nebulae systems? Can you use the nebulae gun to destroy them, create a star and somehow form planets? or what? Any help would be great thank you. [ November 02, 2002, 23:07: Message edited by: Brando7778 ] |
Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
Under the Stellar Manipulation tech area, there are devices that can destroy nebulae. I think they require higher levels of it, like 5 or 6 or so. If you use one on a Nebula or system-wide Storm, it destroys it, and changes the system type from Storm to Normal. You can then create a Star in the Normal system, and build a Ring or Sheperworld out of the star. But, you cannot create any planets in the system.

Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
The component used to destroy a nebula is called a Nebulae Graviton Emitter and it requires Stellar Manipulation 6.

Thank you for your help, one more question tho--
How do you create a Ring or Sheperworld from the star after you destroy the nebulae? |
Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
You need to move ships with Space Yard components on them in the same sector (square) as the star. Then, you need to build a bunch of Starbases. Each Starbase must have 1 of a certain component on them. To build a Ringoworld, you need the following number of components:
1 Ring World Placement Generator 5 Planetary Gravity Plating 5 Hyper - Density Cables Since all of these components are 2000 kT, you will need to put them all on different Starbases. For a Sphereworld, you need: 1 Shpereworld Placement Generator 10 Planetary Gravity Plating 10 Hyper - Density Cables It is more effecient to build 11 (or 21 for a SW) Base Spaceyards in the sector with the star, so that you can have them all coordinated to build the necessary Starbases and have them done on the same turn. The components cost a huge amount of resources, and don't do anything by themselves, so having the Plating and Cables sitting around waiting for the Generator (which costs a lot more) to be built wastes a lot of resources in maintenance. Once the necessary components are available, select the Starbase with the Generator on it and then hit the Stellar Manipulation button (b hotkey) and build the RW or SW. If you built the BSYs, then you now have a massive planet with 11 or 21 BSYs over it to start building defenses already. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |

This is awesome, thank you Imperator Fyron, much appreciated. :-)

Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
You can also just put the queues on hold right before it woud normally complete, the flyign space yards are nice because you don't have to leave them there for the rest of their lives.

"With the BSYs, you can build a ton of Weapons Platforms right away to protect the new RW/SW colony."
You can do that with ships too- and they don't have to be built on-site. The only difference is the bases get 50% maintance reduction and the ships can be moved away when you're done. |
Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
I didn't say you couldn't do it with ships. But with a RW or SW, you might want to make it a major construction center, so you can get a kick start on the BSYs you'll want there. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
Redundant post
I often destroy the nebula, and create a star. Later I come back and make a Ring World. [ November 03, 2002, 03:30: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |
Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
If you construct a ringworld, is there a way to turn it into a sphereworld later?
|
Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
Moogles! Awesome.
No, you cannot destroy a Ringworld in the unmodded game. However, if you mod the Tectonic Bomb to have an Ability 1 Val 1 := 6, then it will be able to destroy a Ringworld (which is the 6th entry in PlanetSizes.txt, as that is how this value works). Then, you could build a new star, and turn it into a Ring- or Sphereworld. But, it also creates an asteroid belt, which you can build a planet out of (before you build the SW). So, you could do this over and over to make tons of planets in one system (as long as you mod the Tectonic Bombs). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif [ November 05, 2002, 07:24: Message edited by: Imperator Fyron ] |
Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
You could also use it to hide a battle fleet. Most nebula's are impervious to sensors. So you could hide a large fleet inside.

Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
Actually, only 1 of the 10 Nebula systems (both Storm and Nebulae entries in systemtypes.txt) is impervious to all scanners. Level 2 scanners will penetrate 8 of the types. Level 3 are required to penetrate 1 type.

Yes. A scanner can scan all cloaking of its level and below.

Re: What to do with Nebulae Systems
seen some odd things in this game, just making sure. lol.

Wow! This thread brings back memories... That's my very first post down there. Thanks Fyron, for answering my first question! Also, you're the only one who recognizes me as a Moogle. Everybody else thinks I'm a potato pixie...
