Strange thing with Facilities

Okay weird thing happening. When I open the construction queue for my planets I see a couple of planets that have their facilities displayed as a fraction (as per normal) but the top number is larger than the allowed number of facilities eg 24/5. If I scrap some facilities and try to build another it won't let me as says maximun limit of facilities has been reached. What is going on? Obviously the planets could hold more facilities at one stage but not anymore. I know I have had quite a few intel attacks come my way but when i look at the planet it has breathable atmosphere etc. and displays the productin values of the planet as though ALL the facilities were producing, though I suspect this isn't the case. What can I do to fix the problem and what is/has caused this?

any help appreciated!

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

Sounds like a planet that has become domed... Did you bring population there that can't breathe the atmosphere? Because if any portion of the population of the planet can't breathe the planet's atmosphere, it becomes a domed colony with all the space limits that implies.

I cant remember.
When you dome a planet like this by having a mixed atmosphere population requirement... do all of the facilities still get used?
or just the first 5(etc)

Sounds like PaladinX hit the nail on the head.
If a planet has 24 facilities and then a different breathing race is dropped on the planet, it will now be domed.
The extra facilities will continue to work but you wan't be able to build any new facilities until the planet becomes un-domed again.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

Actually i have just noticed that the "conditions" on the planet have changed to "deadly" although the population still seems to be growing. I suspect this is from an intel attack. I haven't moved any population to the planet, still the original population type. How do I fix the problem?

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

"Deadly" conditions shouldn't make a planet become domed.
Population hasn't dropped to 0M has it?
Unless someone else has some other suggestions, Perhaps upload your turn and I'll take a look at it.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

One thing you can do is upgrade those facilities. I have a similar situation in one of my games and was able to upgrade the spaceyard and the mineral miners with no hoo-hoo.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

Deadly does not necessarily mean no reproduction. IIRC, it means that the conditions value (not to be confused with resource values) of the planet (which is only in the map editor) is between 0 and 0.60. 1.0 is the average value, and it goes up to 1.50 for Optimal planets.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

That might be a good suggestion for MM.

Make all "deadly" planets domed, regardless of atmosphere type / race.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

If you construct a condition improvement facility on the planet, the deadly condition should eventually go away, right? Oh, but you can't build any facilities because of the dome... if you have religious tech, maybe you can put a nature shrine on one of the other planets/moons of the same system and the deadly condition should eventually go away.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

You could always scrap some facilities until you're back under the domed limit.
Another option would be to keep a conditions improvement plant on all of your breathable planets, just in case.

"You could always scrap some facilities until you're back under the domed limit"

Why would you want to do THAT? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif The extra facilities will keep functioning, so you're wasting production..

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

Another way excessive facilities can happen (but unlikely in this case) is if you don't have the Advanced Storage Techniques trait, and take control of a world from someone who does have it.

You should have gotten a Log entry about "atmospheric bombs" when the intel op turned the planet Deadly.

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

Thanks for all the help guys but turns out I was being a bit of a pillock. I DID indeed move a population of methane breathers onto my oxygen planet and hence planet became domed and I lost the use of the extra facilities - bad move. Now I will have to move them off again. When I load my transport do i get the choice of which kind of population i want to move ie oxygen breathers or methane breathers? Or do I just have to move the whole lot.

Sorry about my misleading answers - thanks for the help from all of you!

Re: Strange thing with Facilities

You can pick and choose the population, but you have to use the "Transfer Cargo" command instead of "Load Cargo". This means if you're playing a simultaneous game you might lose some move points... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif wish SE4 had a system like Stars! where you could give all those complex orders about picking up and dropping stuff off...
