Inaccurate intel?
I ran a series of Covert Reacons on an enemy homeworld; they all reported the same thing. Planet has x this facility x this facility, x this facility and no cargo.
Sweet, I think, no weapons platforms. I go in..and there are 21 small weapon platforms, 36 troops, and 4 medium fighters on the surface! Anyone have any idea what's going on? Even the covert recon from this turn insists nothing is there.. Phoenix-D |
Re: Inaccurate intel?
Here's an idea:
Are there any FREIGHTERS in orbit? Anythign at all with the transport capacity to LIFT that many WPlats and troops ... ? If so ... perhaps the guy is manually loading everything from the planet at the end of his turn ... then giving the freighters orders to DROP the cargo back on the planet on day 1. IF so, and -=IF=- intelligence activities occur on "day zero" of the month ... that could explain your innacurate reports right there. When the world is scouted, it has no WPlats, no troops, etc. A few hours later, the whole schmear is offloaded from the orbiting freighters (again), in time to play catch-the-plasma-bolt with your fleet(s) ... |
Re: Inaccurate intel?
It's an AI, and I doubt the AI is that sneaky. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif There *are* transports in orbit, but they're minelayers.

Re: Inaccurate intel?
I have never seen that report say there was any cargo on a world.

Re: Inaccurate intel?
Execute them and hire new ones; loyal ones with mind conditioning.
What's omnipotency for if you can't even hire good spys? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: Inaccurate intel?
heh. In the end it didn't matter. I got the world, by sending in a huge wave of transports. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif A bunch of them got shot down before dropping the troops, but enough got through. Here's the interesting part: I took the planet, intact. But there are still enemy troops on the world trying to take it back! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Inaccurate intel?
It's the Proportions mod, if that helps..what I got was these ground combat Messages:
4 stalemates with me attacking 1 we have won 1 the sergetti are attacking, stalemate I checked the AI's log report, and 6 troops were constructed during the turn. However, it has *10* of those troops on the planet, so it can't be just that unless..wait, there's a troop transport in orbit. Checking the replay, it ran for the corner as my ships approached. They unloaded their troops, then it approached and ran for the corner again. So that explains that I guess. Phoenix-D |
Re: Inaccurate intel?
Ok, so the troops he built were actually from the turn before probably, since construction happens after combat. That does make sense then.

Re: Inaccurate intel?
Does intel show cargo on the planet? Not just facilities?

Re: Inaccurate intel?
Rutha: it specificlly said "no cargo" in the intelligence report. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I don't know about the false cargo intel report though - sounds like a good one to ask Malfador to double-check. PvK |

Re: Inaccurate intel?
I was basing my comment on Pheonix-D's message of posted November 15, 2002 21:05.

Re: Inaccurate intel?
Well if you read his comment then my statment makes sense. There were two different Groups of troops. One that was contructed on the planet the turn prior to his invasion, and one that was waiting in a troop transport and attempted to retake the planet afterwards. I wasn't saying the troops that attempted to retake the planet were the ones constructed on the planet the turn prior. Those troops were destroyed in the invasion.
