Atrocities Star Trek Mod (ASTmod) UPDATED 2-9-04
The public beta will be uploaded to the PPB (Play By Web)site sometime this evening, luck permitting. The offical ASTmod Add On Pack will also be availible for download.
The AST mod is around 20 megs, while the AST add on pack is around 10 megs. Please read the Getting Started read-me before playing, as you will also need to install the planet, component, and facility image mods. All suggestions and or comments, good or bad, are welcome. Just post them at shrapnel, or Fyrons forum. You can even email them too me. Again thanks, and please let me know what you think of the mod after you have had a chance to play it. Important
You will need to download the Fyron Q-mod v 2.0 and copy the System file from it to the Pictures folder of the AST mod. Play By Web will not allow me to upload a file the size as the Fyron has. I will resize the images and then post AST Mod P2 on Saturday. But the mod and the add on are there for download. Just copy the Fyron Q-mod 2.o System folder to the AST mod Pictures folder and your done. |

Is FQM 2.0 the deluxe Version? If so, I would recommend using Fyron's smaller Version for the ASTmod as it makes it easier to deal with, only losing a few nebula entries.

Atrocities the problem is:
Ability 1 Type := System Point Generation Modifier - Research Ability 1 Descr := Increase all research in a system by 10%. Ability 1 Val 1 := 10 Ability 1 Val 2 := 0 Ability 2 Type := System Point Generation Modifier - Research Ability 2 Descr := Generates 700 research points each turn. Ability 2 Val 1 := 700 Ability 2 Val 2 := 0 You use "System Point Generation Modifier - Research" both times...so it is multiplied by 710%...which is a lot! The second value should be using "Point Generation - Research" ability instead! |

Atrocities, I just want to say: Excellent job on the mod. I have only messed around with it for a couple minutes but I love it so far. I look forward to playing some more games with it. Once again, Kudos!

There may be a similar problem with warp core engine. When I add one to a speed 6 ship it jumps up to speed 32.

Remember, a lot of the new tech has to be crossed researched. So some of the Race tech levels may show up as empty. Once you research an area such as computers all the way out, then things such as the Genesis device can become availible provided you have researched Gravitational and Stellor tech. |

Browsing through components.txt, noticed a few possible typos in the NAME field:
- Ferengi Salvvage Crew(I-V) (or maybe that's how the ferengi spell it?) - Sesor Array - Crystal Enhanced Laser -- (missing the I and II for the first two levels, and the third level name is blank). - Poloron (instead of polaron) beams Also, the 5th level shipyards jump pretty far ahead of 4th level shipyards in production ability - was that intended? -Spoon |

The mod uses the Fyron Q-mod 2.0. It does not allow for terraforming of some worlds. I have talked to Fyron about this, and he has explained why this is. You'll have to ask him to explain it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

I noticed something else in the game. I go to build a colony ship, and I select the 400KT size ship. It has the restrictions of the bridge and so forth so I fill that part of it up. It also has the restriction of 50% of space must be used for colony componants. So I put one on there and all is well. I fill up the rest of the space with cargo containers, etc. But when I use the Advanced Colonization mount and I put one on it's still needing 50% of the space for that.
Wait, as I was typing this I was messing around with it again to recreate the problem. And before I would put two colony things on it and it would be over the size limit because I had some other stuff in it. But now I just have the bare essentials and two fit fine, and that does the job. I have ran into an intersting problem that I can not seem to figure out.
I have set the maximum number of engines allowable on all ships to a maximum of 2. However, the AI is building Attack Ships with 3 engines. When I try to do this, I get the restriction that only 2 engines are allowable. This bug only seems to be used on AI designed Attack Ships of all designs. All other designs appear to follow the rule. I am fiddling with the DesignCreation.txt now to try and figure this bug out, but I was hoping that someone here may have already encountered the bug, and had over come it. Well, I don't mind you using the mounts and components, but I would like to ensure they are used "right"...
#14 and #7 should be mutually exclusive. The point of the mounts is to allow units to use tiny-mount ship weapons. #15, if you're not using leaky shields, then sure. I'd reccommend adding Crystalline-ability deflector shields too, if not the full leaky shield effect. |

If any one cares, the latest Version of the ASTmod is availible for download at PBW. ASTmod Part I contains the neutral race images, and the images for the 8 major races and all data files.
ASTmod Part II is data only. It will replace all the data files in the ASTmod .9995 with the latest files. (inlcuding one image) AST add on Pack is unchanged. Download it to gain access to 12 more major races. [ December 07, 2002, 22:28: Message edited by: Atrocities ] |

Atrocities, I love the Mod but i've got a nagging problem:
The pictures for about 1/4 of the Planets/Moons/Stars don't display on the main Solar System map. They just show up as black squares. When you actually click on the black spot (you can only tell something is there when you've got the "Show Planet Names" Option enabled) then the picture of the planet appears under the detailed screen. Any idea how to correct this? I've installed the the 3 Image Packs you recommended and installed the System files from the Fyron Mod too. I did get some "CRC" errors from the AST mod while extracting it though. Could that be the culprit? I have the identical black planet problem; no problems extracting either the mod or the latest planet pack, though. Problems not confined to any one type of planet, although several were the Irradiated "size."

Reinstall the Planet Pack of the image mod and see if that helps. I recommend installing the Image Mod into the default pictures folders, to reduce redundancy. It does not affect the normal game in the slightest. Also, did you rename "NewPlanets.bmp" to "Planets.bmp"? That is the most probable cause of the problem you are having.

At that point I doubt that I will do much more with it aside from needed AI updates or something. If you want to improve the mod, make changes, correct problems, or just fiddle with it, by all means help yourselves. (Please keep a record of your modifications seprate from those that I have included.) I have found that mod making is a very time consuming endevor with little pay off and no real sense of accomplishment. Your work is always a work in progress. Is it me or does 24 seem less like 24 this year and more like a reality show based on Office politics?
I really do hate the office scenes where everyone has a cut throat, back stabbing agenda. My god if the real government office in charge of protecting us from terrorism is like that office, I'd fire every Last one of them and hire in some professionals who put the job first and the office bull **** a distant 10th. |

Last month I've send some notes about AST to CNCRaymond via e-mail. I haven't got any replies and all the issues are still there (1.9.6). Though, it was minor bugs/annoyances, but should I send them again, in case of CNCRaymond didn't recieved my letter? Or AST development is already finished after 1.9.6?

Well good news, the mod will continue to be supported for at least one more update.
