Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

Why, of course; I shall try and defend the belt. Count me in.

Please consider the following:

Quote:

Victory conditions: Team that has 300% more points than second team or team that colonize their home planet (see description of your race) with a space yard, mining miner-, Organics Farm- and a Radioactive extraction facility, both after 8 years.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I would recommend removal of the 300% more points condition, as this will be difficult to actually verify (no one will be actively checking, especially when most empires are at war). Besides, It's just plain more fun to find the homeworld.

I would recommend removal of the "both after 8 years," requirement, as it is a little confusing, because the requirement is to hold your homeworld for 20 turns after you have made the announcement, (not 28 total turns).

Geo was kind enough to arrange the partnerships and place them on the map (as a third party). I just wonder what system will be used to determine the partnerships in the start (picking them out of a hat?)

Quote:

N.b. you can only win as a team!!
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Does this mean that populations from both teams' empires must occupy the homeworld? I did this Last time but was cloudy if that was the intent.

I would also recommend adding the 100 mines per sector house rule.

Also, let's wait for at least 10-12 committed players before we kick it off to maximize the fun and the challenge. Thanks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Even though I performed poorly in the first, you can count on a MUCH better effort from me in this one. I have learned many new things in regards to strategies and defenses and even empire setup, which is VERY important.

"I would also recommend adding the 100 mines per sector house rule."

In a fully-patched Gold game, this doesn't matter. The 100-limit is enforced, no way to get around it any more.

But I predict a slow december as the Holiday season is coming, what plans are there for that.

Thanks for the comments:

Good idea, just the colonization as a victory condition.

I would also recommend adding the 100 mines per sector house rule.

I thought that this was fixed in patch 2 (and this game will be gold patch 2)....

Geo was kind enough to arrange the partnerships and place them on the map (as a third party). I just wonder what system will be used to determine the partnerships in the start (picking them out of a hat?)

Yes geoschmo pick them by hand, so that there would be now pre-arranged allies.

N.b. you can only win as a team!!

This was more like a push to get every player allied with his "partner".

I would recommend removal of the "both after 8 years," requirement, as it is a little confusing, because the requirement is to hold your homeworld for 20 turns after you have made the announcement, (not 28 total turns).

Offcourse: 2 years in game = 20 turns
And with the announcement, no coordination has to be revealed. This to give the other players still some thinks to search for.

But I predict a slow december as the Holiday season is coming, what plans are there for that.
Last player uploading during the holidays (I hope so!!!)

Yes, this game will probaly not start before new year, so no problem.

"Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

Ok, guys, here it is Home coming 2: shoot on it

Home coming 2

Thousand of years have past since the Last galactic war. As a result of this war many races had to leave their home planet searching for new resources and peace.
Some found what they were looking for, other perished.
Those that found a new world mostly lost their high technology and were confined to their new home planet.

Now after hundred of years some races have invented new ways to travel and explore space…

This is a team-based game
To avoid prearranged teams and races this game is set as followed:

Starting resources: 20000
Starting planets: 1
Home planet value: good
Score display: allied
Technology level: Medium
Racial points: 3000
Quadrant type: Custom
Quadrant size: depending on number of player (>10 = large)
Event frequency: None
Technology cost: Medium
Victory conditions: Team that has 300% more points than second team or team that colonize their home planet (see description of your race) with a space yard, mining miner-, Organics Farm- and a Radioactive extraction facility, both after 8 years.
Furthermore, when you have colonized your home planet, you have to mention this to all other races. When you have manage to keep your home planet after again 2 years, then you have won the game.
Maximum units: 2000
Maximum ships: 500
Computer players: None
Neutral empires: No
Version: 1.78 (gold patch 2)

The game owner will start the game and will tune every race with one sentence that refers to the home planet where the race originated from.
Every race will have a partner race, which originated from the same planet: your team-mate (random) N.b. you can only win as a team!!
Because all races are scattered over the map, you have to find your partner.
The game owner will design a map and put all players somewhere on the map (taking in account the different team players), this will prevent random placement of each player/team-mates.

Further Rules:
- Maximum alignment with non-team mates: Trade Alliances!
- Intel is on
- No computer or neutral players
- No Ancient race Trait!!

I definitely want to be a part of this game!! I just have to think up a good race and shipset. Do I need to create their history and homeworld type, or are aspects like that going to be created in some part by the host, in order to clue us in to our ally and homeworld type or location.

And for that guy who claims to hold the undisputed Intergalactic championship belt, I've got a steel chair swinging for your head...Oh it's true...it's true!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Whatcha gonna do when the power of Cheeze-o-mania runs wild on you?!?!?!

Trade alliances only, how about tech trade? (I think it should be Banned, except for between the two allied players.)
But that gives those who get early contact an advantage.
Heck , I don't know what i think.

Cheeze December 6th, 2002 06:10 AM

Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

Does Trade alliance only preclude Trade/Research alliances, as I think it does? What's the reason for this rule? It seems that any alliance could serve any player's advantage. Knowing that you could ally with someone who will certainly sell you out (according the game's rules) is a risk you may have to consider worth taking. I would be more inclined to allow any alliances at all, but perhaps there are reasons for gameplay why we are doing this.

sparhawk December 6th, 2002 10:45 AM

Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

No the restriction is to Trade alliance (so NO trade/research alliance)
This to make all things clear and the idea that races only make partnership with races that they trust..., and yes you can still trade whatever with whomever.
That totally up to you, if you want to give your enemies an advantage.

Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

Question. How much RPing in this game? I myself tend to be a 'light' RPer that'll act in-char and make the effort to speak in-char. My standards aren't high, but I have an extremely low tolerance for default Messages (exception being monthly or bi-monthly tech trades). I'd like to avoid having a partner that'll send me default Messages. Is this possible?

If yes, then please count me in, since this looks like an interesting game.

Hope I don't sound too picky...

Oh also, if RPing is involved, is anything gonna be done to prevent 'incompatible' races from being stuck as partners? (i.e. Serene pacifists with homicidal berserkers type thing, although I imagine bickering with a partner over just about everything might be interesting... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

I hope to join soon...I have to prepare a good empire for the game.

sparhawk December 8th, 2002 10:49 AM

Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

Its possible to created what evere kind of race.
Therefore its also possible to be allied whit some totally different race (berserker etc is possible)
The aim was to have another kind of victory conditions than in normal game (points).
And secondly I liked to make a team base game: so that you know that you have at least one ally.
And only with this alliance can you win this game.
So you have to do two things: find your partner and colonize your homeworld together.
Playing RP is totally up to you, but normally some kind of RP is played during the game (as was in home coming 1).

The only thing about this game: YOU CAN'T QUIT.
Because you partner is counting on you!!!!!!!!!!
Therefore only people that already finished 2-3 pbw are adviced to join.
(sorry about this, but its a lesson from home coming 1)

Hmmm... Alright I understand the no quitting rule. However, if I need an extended break (a few days to a week or two) for real-life business, would you be willing to pause the game?

What about e-mail communication? Is it allowed?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Bottom line- we want to keep breaks in the game to a minimum so as not to inconvenience all the other players. But as PBW players and Admins realize, there is real life out there... (I've heard of it at least). Often, if a player has to go away for the weekend it is perfectly understandable and acceptable. Also, the holidays cause a delay for some as well. Be courteous, give advance notice, and most of all, don't abuse the policy by doing it all the time. If you feel that you will be missing a bunch of turns and will be away from your computer often, perhaps the timing isn't right for you right now to get in a game.

As for email communications, they are allowed as long as you encounter the race in the game. The best part about that is that there can be no pre-collaboration whatsoever, because you won't know who your partner is until you actually meet them and read their description!

Sparhawk; this is just my 2 cents, add anything if I am off.

No Stone Mill perfect, that just what I would give as an answer:

So away for a couple of days is ok, but for >4-5 days is a problem. Then you have to find someone else to do your turns.

This game with also start half januari(you know christmas etc.)

I am wondering about this because I am wavering over my choice of homeworld type/atmosphere. Will those (along with this clue line in my species description/history/society) be modified by the host to link it with my as-yet-unknown partner?

sparhawk December 10th, 2002 10:35 AM

Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

No they will not.
So its a little simple but you can end up with a partner having different atmosphere or ice/gas/rock combination than your.
altought your both homeworld is going to have on of your atmosphere.

No, that only changes the password that's registred at the site,
But if the one who will change the emp files is a op at the PBW site he can propably find my password there.

That's what I was wondering, how will you change the empire description when the empire file is password protected?
I can upload a emp file without a password if that's needed, I just want to know what to do.
I have no problems myself with the empire file.

Re: "Home coming 2" is coming this december to PBW

Sections 1.12 and 3.5 of the PBW FAQ that explain how to change passwords.

The only way to make any other changes to the .emp file is to post an Admin Request to have your status changed back to Empire Needed, then upload the corrected .emp file. The only way to edit .emp files is by way of SE IV's New Game/Set Up/Players screen.

Ruatha, sorry for the confusion. You are completely correct, and so is everybody else. They just didn't answer the right question. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

I as a PBW admin have access to the password that you told PBW you were using for your empire file. As long as this is actually the password you used I can open your empire file and edit the empire description. If the two do not match I cannot open the empire file as you uploaded it.

In the interest of parity, can we have the third party responsible for choosing teams make the best attempt possible to ensure that partners have different colonization types and atmospheres? This will ensure the game is realtively even, and partners will benefit from an exchange upon meeting.

We understand this may not be possible because players control their own empire options... but please consider it, to be fair.

To came back to your question, stonemill.
I have two options: every team has thesame colonization type (eq rock, gas , ice). THis in favour of the game idea.

Or every team has different col. type.
Because of the balance in col. type probally I (my wife)will choose the teams such, that every team has the same col.type. And in such a small map, that is the best option..
Secondly, teams are chosen randomly.
