Well, I used to have three different SE4 Versions installed, with all the old Versions of Piratesmod and P&N, TDM and stuff.
Sadly, I now have zero files on my home computer. |

I have SE one, two, and three still installed, I'm just to lazy to remove them. In addition I have two installations of SE4 (original and personal pre-gold mod) and two installations of SE4g (original and personal gold upgraded mod).

Well, besides Deathstalker I seem to have alot of you beat.

My Shrapnel folder is a mere 967,402,977 bytes, but it's in 22,274 files and 586 folders. I've also got a separate "SE IV files" folder with 14,087,019 bytes, 40 files, and 3 folders; I keep backups of my PBW .zip files and unfinished mods there, as well as my drafts and notes for History of the Galaxy II, and some backup copies of shipsets. I've also got 4 floppies with more backups on them, which I'm not going to count because there are some duplicates from the other backup folder. My Space Empires IV Gold directory currently stands at 474,119,514 bytes. That's 11,245 files in 326 folders.
That includes 54+20 races (+6 neutrals), half a dozen savegames, Devnullmod, FQM, P&N, 2 Versions of Proportions, Ultimate vehiclesize, the full image mod and my forthcoming neo-expansion pack. Come on, who can beat that? |

Besides, if you know the Gryphin Position it does not matter. Hmm, come to think of it, I don't own a car and I have a fairly small total dedicated to SEIV on my system. Espcialy true if you do it percentage wize. Well my old computer has a small 3Gb so I have to optimize how I use disk space.
I reduced most pictures to 256 colors and and saved them as RLE encoded bmps, and zip mods I'm not using. So even if I have nearly 200 shipsets, the entire se4 directory is less than 300 mb. |

I had posted this only as a comment and information, by reducing color depth to 256 colors and using RLE encoded bitmaps I could reduce the installed size of an average shipset to a little more than half a Mb with barely noticeable (if any) change in picture quality.
I don’t think I’m the only want who wants to save HD space, and this should be helpful for others. I feel a little uncomfortable with this change of topic to "get Andrés a new HD". I don’t feel I have given you enough for such generosity. And I would feel obliged to repay you, if I get anything. Adding a new larger HD to my old pentium II may help, but I can manage with this one, I just need to make some room from time to time. And there were other things that were higher in my priority list, increasing the 32Mb of memory should allow me to run 3dstudio more smoothly (and make shipsets without having to test my patience so much), and replacing the CD-ROM that does not work anymore. Last year (2001) I was considering to get a whole new computer, but my economic situation this year wasn't as good as I expected (the worst part of course is that it wasn’t just me but everybody else around here) and there was always something more important than fixing a computer that after all keeps working. For example I just spent $ 130 (arg. pesos that Last year used to be as good as american dollars), a sum that looks like a fortune for my devaluated salary that of course has not increased as all prices have, to get a new inkjet cartridge with only 22.8 ml of ink. After spending the whole week trying in vain to get a used recycled one because my old one was short-circuited and refilling it, that is what everybody does these days wouldn't help. |

Well, mine is only a paltry 1.38 Gigs of disk space.
(24,129 files, 762 folders, 1,175,049,182 bytes of data, FAT32) Not counting about 400megs on a RW-CD as a portable game install to carry to and from work, so I can play my game anytime on any machine (with a RW-drive, but they're pretty common now). |
