The Neo-expansion pack. Version 1.40available now!

OK, this is actually a year late, but the neo-expansion pack V1_00 is here. Well, not here, but on my website... you know what I mean.

What do you mean "What is it?"

*sigh*

It is a collection of over 50 images which expand your stock races with a smattering of neo-standard ships. It (crucially) also expands the generic shipset to include every single neo-standard image.

Yes, many of these images have been available as gifs on my website for ages (most of the generics and the Jraenar heavy dreadnought) but now the whole lot is available as a handy zip full of bmps. Also, let's not forget the new images: We have 3 worldships (for the Pirates and Nomads among you), half a dozen scouts (Great for Proportions games) and loads more stuff which will look great in Devnullmod, Ultimate Vehiclesize Mod and so much more. This download will work with any Version of SE4, and can be safely installed without damaging any of your data files. To use the images, just install them and start a game using any neo-standard compatible mod.

Here's the URL. As always, feedback is more than welcome in this thread. My thanks to Andres Lescano who is responsible for most of the generic images and more. Submissions for future Versions of the expansion pack are welcome on my usual email address. Enjoy http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Neat... it seems the Piundon ships even have better textures than the stock Piundon... but why does the Jraenar heavy destroyer look more like a heavy dreadnought http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

ummm... it is a heavy dreadnought. Have I named it wrong?

EDIT: No I haven't. Jeez, Ed, you had me worried...

Is there something wrong with the link to the zip? It kept giving me a "Page cannot be desplayed message." I will go back and try it as a direct download.

Although he should be dressed in a suit & tie instead of armor & gun. He'd make one hell of a scarry door-to-door (planet-to-planet) salesman with those bugged out eyes of his http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

im thinking, do modders actually care about the neo-standard? i've done one of my races neo-compatible and planning to do the same with my next ones. should i even bother?

Do we care?
Of course!

For details, see:

PS: as an update for your website's "neostandard table"
P&N now also uses:
Scout, huge and massive fighters, and troop huge.

SiP? As in the comic Strangers in Paradise?

I've never read the book (I do read comics though). My name's an evolution of DooDooKatchoo, which I used during my Star Wars: Alliance playing days. I eventually shortened the name down.

Although i'm sure I originally heard it from a SiP reference and that's where I subconsciously got it from. So i'm probably a wholly unoriginal person http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Thanks S_J, I'll sort that. The whole neo-standard section needs revamping, really. Maybe this weekend.

Katchoo: Yeah , I was referring to the comic. My brother's a big fan. I liked the early ones, but then it got a bit convoluted and I lost interest.

Taera: The neostandard is used in most of the "big name" mods, and plenty of lesser ones. Even if it's not, it doesn't matter. One of the great things about the neo-standard is that it's entirely optional for everyone (modders, shipset creators, players) - when all three happen to use it at the same time then it's just added value.

mlmbd: Glad to see you interested. Half the reason for this project was because I wanted a mention in the lurk report http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif If you have images to contribute, I'll be happy to include them. I've already done a few new images (sergetti_fighterhuge, CueCappa_resourcestation and tidied up the phong infantry) for the next Version, which may or may not be released next Saturday...

I've been thinking, wouldnt "alien vessel" ship be good for neo-standard?
Just for various uses. Like, humans could have some flying saucers. To use with alien ships/designs. Or at least a generic-ship, saucer-shaped?

It is certainly a unique idea, but I don't know if it is focussed enough.
ISTM that the ships fitting that description would be too varied to fit into a single hull size.

A "Derelict" or a "FutureShip" image might be good for scenarios...

I imagine you could just make a Human shipset using variations on saucers and cigar ships, and tell how terran spacetravel was revolutionized by their discovery in the historical description.

Gryphin, yes you can. All a neo-standard compliant ship set does is have extra pictures in it. If the mod does not support the extra pictures, they don't do anything.

Dogscoff, here are the extra images I have used, though some are already in the NeoStandard. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Disreguard the rest of this.

I put
Scout, and other names from the Neo Standard, (NS)
I make sure the vehicles I ad have a secondary ship designated in case an image is not available.
Everything works.

I have to confess that the thought of adding new sizes to the neostandard does send a certain chill through my spine, although that's mainly because it means I'll never get the vikings finished.

That said, it was agreed from the start that the standard could be added to, and it couldn't really do any harm except that ppl seem to have trouble with the concept already, and introducing a V2 neostandard might turn ppl off.

Anyway... Fyron's mod sounds very cool, and it would be a wonderful thing to see it illustrated in full glorious techneocolour. I think it might be excessive to add *all* those new sizes, but I guess it comes down to how many of them are likely to be used by other mods. I can see the Ultimate vehiclesize mod snapping them all up immediately, but I'd like to hear what other ppl (especially other modders) have to say on the subject.
