Deploying Stealth sats
I want to deploy a satelite in my enemys system without him noticing it, it should be an early warning system in case he sends an invasion force towards me.
The ship that shall deploy is cloaked with stealth armour, the satelite also has stealth armor. This is how I expect things to go (Simultaneus game): 1.(turn 1) The cloaked ship arrives and deploys the sat. 2. (turn 2) The sat is deployed and shows up on all scanners, including my enemys. 3. (turn 2) I cloak the sat. 4. (turn 3) It disappears from my enemys scanners, but now he knows where it is and is sure to build a ship with hyperoptics to scan for all my stealthy satellites! 5. (later) He destroys my early warning system. Is there someway to deploy it already cloaked? [ December 18, 2002, 07:55: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
Re: Deploying Stealth sats
Send your cloaked ship into an obscuring storm sector & drop the sat in there. It would still be worthwhile to cloak it, becasue hyperoptics etc can still see through storms (if you research the right level) and I think your cloaking will add to the obscurity. Also, he might develop stellar manip and clear the storm...

Will my sat see out through the storm?

Re: Deploying Stealth sats
Level 3 scanners can see everything except IIRC through certain nebula (NOT storms)
Cloaking does not add. The highest cloak level for each type is used.. Phoenix-D |
Re: Deploying Stealth sats
Does a storm that says:
"There is heavy radiation causing combat sensor interference" hide my sat. Or does it just interfere in combat (It says so)? |

Re: Deploying Stealth sats
I don't think Long Range Scanners are affected by storms. The default storm cloaking {IIRC} is level 2, the same as stealth armor. The "interferes with combat sensors" just subtracts the amount {20% default?) from everyone's to-hit chances.

I think stealth armor is level one EM, active and passive, also IIRC. [ December 18, 2002, 18:08: Message edited by: DarkHorse ] |
Re: Deploying Stealth sats
Long Range Scanners only work when you can see the target with your current sensor level. It's sensors that matter. And no, sensor levels don't seem to add so the highest level of protection is what matters.
BTW, it was my impression that units were automatically cloaked when deployed. If there is any sort of cloak level component in a unit it will be activated when deployed. At least that's what I've heard about fighters. |
Re: Deploying Stealth sats
The trick is to do this with a fleet.
Inexperienced players will "miss" the satellite drop. Even better if you are at peace first. And make sure you whistle nonchalantly and look the other way while you drop it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Deploying Stealth sats
Your best bet is to deploy your satellite net in systems around your controlled space as earily on as possible. Eventually they will be seen and destroyed, but hopefully by then, you will be able to repell any attack.
What I like to do, once I have it, is build a star killer with advanced scanners & such with cloaking ability and deploy them in every system I have access too that my enemies do not. That way when he sends in a large fleet, all I have to do is decloak and Kaboooom, no more enemy fleet. Then I send in a star creator and do it all over again. I have blown away some of my own systems, heavily populated mind you, in order to take out a large battle fleet of my enemies. |
