I used to like Religious a lot, but now almost all of my games are not racial. However I can't seem to live without the Advanced Storage trait.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Actually I don't play much with racial traits. In order be effective I have found production is a key trait. I have been suprised that adaquate designs coupled with massive production wins out over better designs most of the time.

I also prefer crystallurgy in my games.
I don't see it as an early game trait - it requires a strong base to use on. What i mean is, i usually research crystallurgy up to lvl 5 and push on colonization, research and other useful weapons (APB/Torpedo was my Last combo).
WHen i have a good base (not those orbiting things) i research up to level 9-10 ASAP.
Those high-end crystallurgy weapons seem to me to be some of the best in this game.

Crystallurgy maintenance reduction facility is a real gift, especially given i tend to like remote mining. Other facilities dont seem as important to me. And yes, crystalline armor makes the best Heavy ships.

(battleship and higher.... put like 12 of these and unless your enemy uses something REAL powerful in huge quantities, in which case you'll win anyway as your weaponry would be superior, or is crystalline too, you're almost invincible to damage... dont forget than even when ID fires there ALWAYS would be shields... unless they were shut down before by the shield distruptor, which costs $$$)

Crystalurgy -- i role play it so I only use racial weapons and armor, more of a challenge than the others.

I tried a TDM modpack game over the weekend. AI medium bonus, but no holds barred -- evil trades perpetrated by me -- cause I wanted to win before the day was up. Decided to be the Cryslonite ... lost 3 games in a row, switched to Phong, now I'm MEE but they're all doomed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Funny 'tho, gas giant hometype is a real disadvantage.

I don't play 2 together in standard game. I've troed temporal-orgainc in P&N -- wanted to quickly build them battlemoons, but I keep getting clobbered -- I don't have the hang of QNP yet

I like the Temporal racial trait not for any tatical reason, I just like the items it has, like Tachyon Cannons.

I'm no longer too fond of racial traits, so when I use 'em I tend to go for coolness factor.

Temporal - I just like the idea of a race that's capable of manipulating time http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Temporal Yards, anti-shield weaponry are pretty nice too. Events Predictor helps a lot in a defensive situation as well.

Temporal + Psychic - Manipulate time + read minds http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif I love the psychic training facilities, but I'm not too fond of the trait itself because it encourages other empires to come and snuff me out before I get AS.

Crystallurgy by itself (love them shard cannons), or crystallurgy+religious (love them shard cannons that never MISS).

Throw on some Shield Deploetors to knock down the target's shields before the Shards go to work, and either they have VERY deep shields, or they take non-armor hull damage with the first salvo -- which might reduce their number of guns with which to shoot BACK, always a good thing.

Within fifteen to twenty turns, with the Temporal Cloning facility build and a couple freighters making the rounds, you should have the SW populated to the 77B max.

That, and Temporal Spaceyard III, gives you ~117K build rates (I forget if I'd bought any Construction rate improvements during EMP design). Fully-laden mega-destructor Battlemoons in, say ... 6 turns. 7 tops.

I always go for Temporal (although, until the next patch comes out, it feels like cheating).

I've never played a combo race (well, not since the first couple games, where I was trying to figure out the differences between the racial abilities). But I chose Temporal + Deeply Religious, because I'm planning to try the Deeply Religious trait while I wait for the next patch. Not to mention the AI I have in mind for modding (if I ever find enough time to do that) would match the concept of a Religious race...

Hey, Fyron! I counldn't vote cuz my favorite is "none".

I just drool over those extra 1500 points that the racial types swallow up. Also I have fewer things to research and am ready for bear much earlier in the game.

You can be ready for bear as early as a normal race. Just wait to research the racial techs.

racial traits are fun because they take those 1500 points from you and make each game more interesting as they requie specific strategies, designs and counter designs and strategies. Its a good payoff - early game vulnurability (unless you leave the weapons for "later". mostly this goes to organic/crystallurgy as their weapons only good at levels 5-10) for later superiority (tell me whatever you want, having a racial trait, any racial trait, gives you wider variety of tactics and techniques)

I tend to be a big fan of the Temporal trait (though I haven't used it since the Last patch). I prefer using human type races and temporal is the one trait that seems to be based more on advanced tech instead of alien physiology.

As for combos I gravitate towards Temporal/Religious. Why? Fewer tech overlaps. I can use it all without leaving anything out (I hate to research two different racial weapons techs and only wind up using one, it seems like such a waste).

A close second on Favorites has to be Psychic. I love those telekinetic projectors. Although I have never really used the AS much as of yet.

If I get traits at all (very rare indeed)

Psychic: Steal all those ships and get great fighter weap.

Psychic+Religion: Never miss steal ships...
Though I never take Reli alone as my favorite weap is the ripper.
