Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
Simple question, but you have a selection of options.

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
Games that have been the most addictive to me.
1. Tribes (By far the most addictive game I have ever played. I still dream about it, and miss it as much as I miss my sister. {She Died}) 2. SEIV. What can I say, it is simply one of those games that just keeps you coming back for more. The game is without a doubt, one of the most impressively addictive of its time. (Simply put, if GOD played PC games, SEIV would be his favorite game.) 3. Tribes 2. Loved it, still love it. Seldom play it any more. (No Broadband connection) 4. SimCity 1,2,3, and now 4. 5. BOTF/Rebellion tie. |
Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
I have to say yes... it has the longest playability of any PC game I've played. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

It's still too early for me to tell yet. I've just been really playing it for about 3 weeks and I'm still on the learning stage.
Addictive games for me: Xcom:UFO Xcom:TFTD Xcom:Apocolypse Diablo 1 & 2 MOO2 SMAC Steel Panther series Strategic Command Fallout 1,2& Tactics Axis & Allies SE4 definately has the potential for me to add it to the list too. |
Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
One Of as I am very easily addicted. have to admit that i have playd it exclusively since it came out. Played SEIII, Empire Deluxe, and CIV II in the same time period so, I guess you could say "Most", not sure.

dbt1949,
hmmm, now that I think of it Axis & Allies is really close too. Especially if you count the board game. I love that game. Know it inside and out. I thought I was pretty darn good until I ran into some expert Online players in leagues like Spring 1942 . Some of those players make no mistakes! They have a great community too; albeit not as fun as this one. |

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
SE3 was addictive. Civ2 was addictive. Star Control 2 was/is addictive. SE4G is just a fun game, not addictive.

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
SEIVG has got to be one of the most if not the most addicting games I have ever played. I've played some awesome games but they get old after awhile. This one I can keep coming back to over and over again. It's great!

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
I guess it depends how you definve addictive. I think a game is addictive if like Empires II you play it from the time you bought it at 3pm and don't stop till 7am. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif (and then have to skip class that day to sleep)
SE4 has never been that way for me. I love SE4 becase you can play it by e-mail or PBW in short stints. Hmm funny I think of SE4 as not addictive compared to other games yet it is now the only game I play and I've spent a zillion hours prograamming a modding tool. Hmmm think I better look up addictive in the dictionary http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |

The game lost its appeal after all the exploits and cheaters started playing. (Kindread Clan being amoung the most prolithic cheaters I have ever had the misfortune of fragging.) I spent nearly a year playing Tribes exclusively between bouts of BOTF, and was regarded as one of the best players in the game. When T2 came out, I like many other vetrans moved on. T2 was a far more demanding game, and when I choose to play it, I often finish in the top 3. But since no one else I knew was realy playing it, I slowly lost interest in it. I returned to Tribes 1 and found it flooded with cheaters. I did just fine, but often became very angry at what I was seening. Finally I decided that no game should cause me stress, only pleasure, so I did the only thing I could do, I stopped playing it. And that is a decision I regret even to this day. But I won't go back. I can't not give into the beast. I refuse too. Tribes is evil. Evil. Damn it, where in the hell is my Tribes DISK????? |
Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
The most addictive game for me was Tetris. I would play a game, and then I'd be doing well until I make some dumb mistake and stack some pieces in the wrong spot. Then when I lose, I'd think, "I could do better than that. If only I didn't make that mistake at the end."
Then I'd start a new game. Each time I finish a game, I'd feel that I could do better, and I'd keep retrying. Then later I would look at the time and I've spent three hours playing Tetris. At night, when I go to bed and close my eyes, I can still see those different shapes floating down, and I couldn't get them out of my mind. Even during the day, I see the furniture in the room, and I'd think: if I move this desk over beside the filing cabinet, and move this chair here, they would fit nicely... |
Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
That has to be tops of all that has been listed her e today Kamog... I was laughing pretty hard when I read your post... Sad thing is I was basically the same way a few years ago. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I was also addicted to Pinball on here. One time I posted a 10 million point game (average 4M) and my brother got jealous so he deleted the high scores page. I was so mad at him for doing that... He still denies it to this day though. |
Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
I would say for me, that SE:IV is the game that I've played most consistently for the Last two years. I think the main factor is the modability!
|
Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
IMHO SE4 is lst followed by Shogun during the Last several years, It seems I always play other games, but always return to SE4 lst then Shogun on a continual basis. I come back to SE4 more then any other game i've played...

What about Pong?

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
SE4 is the most addictive game I have ever played. Hell the entire series is addictive but 4 grabbed me worse than any of the others. I played SE2 and then SE3, I got SE4 Demo played it bought SE4 got my CLasic Disk stolen and then got pissed off and refused to play it and played 3 all the time instead. Went and got Gold and ended up deleting every opther game off my HD. Now I spend my nights going "I have to be up at 6, it's 4 now but I have to play just one more turn so I can get that new weapon and use it to crush the Jraenar." 3 hours later it's "oh crap, I'm late for my doctor's appointment, but if I play just one more turn I'l....." and so on. Of course then there are my multiple-days-without-sleep MODding stints which result in "I don't like this MOD, lemme make a new one...." and so forth....

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
In Strategy boardgaming, it was first Stratego, then Risk, then Axis & Allies, then Star Fleet Battles/Federation & Empire (strategic component to SFB). The first PC game I was addicted to was SE3. Then it was Asheron's Call for awhile, then SE4 came out and AC went into the trash and I told MS to stuff their $10/month fee. I hate to say it, but Europa Universalis 2 has been distracting quite a bit of my attention lately, but I have this feeling I will be playing SE4 again pretty soon, once I am done conquering Europe and the New World again. I will say EU2 has the best community (other than this one) that I have ever found -- helpful, friendly and few/no flame wars.

Re: Is Space Empires IV the Most Addictive Game Ever?
The first game to enthral me was Kampfgruppe. Does anyone remember that one? Played it on my 8 bit Atari and when I think back, I believe I would still enjoy it today. Graphics were pretty good (considering the pixels were the size of your hand) and the game play had a strategic flavor. Others on my list, Empires, Civ 2, Heros of Might and Magic, SEIII. But they all pale next to my favorite-- chesterfield rugby. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
