The New Dominion Ship Set

Right now I am nearly done with the set. I only have a few more things to tweak then it shall be done.

In the mean time, if any one is interested in looking at the ship that I have thus far, not all of them, but many of them, then go HERE

Please keep in mind that the mini's are not yet posted, and that the copression distorts the image a tad. I will include thumb nails to larger pictures later.

Your comments are welcome, and I enjoy reading them.

I'm sure I will enjoy the shipset greatly.
I am going to wait until the final Version is released though.
Let us know when it's 100% completed. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Oh my... That has to be one of the most awesome shipsets you've made man. I look forward to playing with them in many games. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The old set??? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

I think the old set has a second race picture that can be used. I will update the old set and call it Dominion 1.74b Old. I will rewrite the description and such so that it will be differant than the new sets.

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

Atrocities, that is one great looking ship set!

Being in the process of creating (or trying to create, anyway) a ship set of my own, I'm curious about the incredible detail of your ships. Do you use bitmap textures? Or do you create them in your modelling program (which I'm assuming is Doga)? Using the basic Moray material editor, I have not been able to create textures that look like metal plates as you have done for this set. I'd appreciate any advice that you might have. Thanks!

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

Thanks. I use Doga L3. The texture editor allows for combinations of patterns including inported ones. I used two exsisting textures and adjusted their depth via the controls in the editor. I also used several other shapes, colored differntly, to give the ships a bit more detail. It was my first attemp at this effect. I am still tweaking the set, but otherwise it is looking better than I had hoped.

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

Damn! These are some nice looking ship images you have going. They oddly enough actually look like dominion ships.

How did you make the Escort look like the real thing? And the Dreadnought, what a job.

The Carriers are really cool to. I like how you set them up. they actually look like carriers.

I like the way you set up the troops and weapon platforms two.

The drone looks mean as hell as well. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

All in all, very nice work indeed. Are you going to remake all of the Star Trek sets?

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

I second that. Destroyer should be scaled up a little.

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

You could use a ship for the destroyer that looks something like the Buck Rodgers fighter except purple. Is there any way you can render those images with antialiasing? They have a case of the jaggies.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Better yet, re-classify the current destroyer as a corvette and create a whole new image below light cruiser :-)

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

Thanks guys, I agree, the Destroyer does need to be scaled up a bit as it is the main stay of the Dominion fleet. The dominion had several sizes of the beatle fighter, ranging from fighter to heavy cruiser. (just and FYI.)

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

Atrocities, thanks for the description of your texture creation. I'll have to do more work with Moray and see what I can do. I'm sure it will be quite some time, though, before I can produce ships of the same high quality as your new Dominion set. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif

Re: The New Dominion Ship Set

Very good stuff, I'll be using that one.

My only criticisms are that the frigate & destroyer look too similar, and that jump between destroyer and light cruiser is too great. That said, you have to stay within the limits of whatever ships have been seen in the ST shows, so I might be asking the impossible.

Oh, and I notice a distinct lack of neostandard images=-) (EDIT: Except the baseship. Just saw that. Sorry.) I'm sure you could dredge up an infantry pic at the very least...

Don't want to sound like I dislike it though, it's a very clean & well put together set.
