OT: What if we live in a infinite resources world like in SE4?

What if we live in a infinite resources world like in SE4?

In a SE4 normal game, each planet will generate infinite resources.
Why do races need to capture others planets and start a war if everyone get infinite resources on a single planets? everyone know that war will use up a lot of resources!!

Imagine someday, people can use solar power be the source of energy?
what will happen?

I'm not scientist, someone please tell me,
Does infinite energy = infinite resource?
Can we use energy to make things? (change the molecule?)

Because economy is based on "Everyone share limited resource", will our economic collapse in a infinite resoruce world?
Will our scientists continue to find out / discovery new thing after that?
or no one will work because we had unlimited resource?

What if not everyone on Earth can get unlimited resource?
Will they share this technology to everyone since they will not missing something?
"infinite divided by any number still equal infinite"?!

I always wonder why scientists or government do not input more funding in the research of solar power or other re-usable energy.....

Those are the questions I want answer and give someone to think....

Thank you for you time...

Happy Chinese New Year!

Ah, you are slightly confused as to the type of infinity meant by infinite resources.

Take Farming on earth = Organics.

We have infinite organics, since plants will continue to grow for billions of years until the sun kills everything on earth and boils away the oceans as it dies.

We have quite limited facility space for organics farms, though, limiting the AMOUNT of that infinite resource we can get each month.

There is also the option of getting more aggressive facilities, as in some mods, that will harvest more in the short term, but that will degrade the conditions and organics value of the planet. This would be forest clearcutting operations, oversized factory farms, and such.

Will people change their mind if they aleardy get infinite resoruce?

does infinite resource = infinite money?
why do we need money if everyone get infinite of anything? economy based on money.

Good to hear that.

Thank you.

I know I'd hate it of Earth were conquered with troops, I was herded onto the assault transport, warped 20 light years away, dropped onto an Oxygen gas giant, and told, "You, chemist, make us advanced armor."

People in SE4 don't need to eat. Arable land on planet Earth is precious, and getting scarcer.

I disagree with both Groups that advancing western medicine isn’t needed anymore. And I personally find the whole idea dull, but hey, it’s just something I don’t want to do – more power to them. There’s a science to everything. I tell the secretar … er.. Chief Administrative Assistant here that what she does is a science, and that I’d be lost without her skills. She thinks I’m being sarcastic. But I’m sincere, I’d be lost without her.

It is expensive, and these people (for some Middle East countries, anyway) have got the most ready cash of any contemporary gov't.

But it hardly provides sufficent quantities of basic foodstuffs. Only luxuries and cash crops really.

Hydroponics is something of a hobby of mine. Won't even feed me, but I do it anyway.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">There is more then enough food on the earth to feed all 6 billion + people on the globe. It's just that the food isn't distributed in the right proportions in order for all to be fed. Some countries are able to grow food alot better then others. And thus the countries that grow food better end up being well fed when compared to the other countries.

As far as living space on the earth goes. There is also in this regard more then enough land for everyone. I read somewhere that there is enough land right now on the earth to give every person on the face of the earth 1 acre of land. That is every person. And that is not considering that there are families. Say you have an average of 4 in a family. And you just keep 1 of your 4 acres. All of a sudden you have 3 extra acres that you can support 3 more families on.

Such studies ussually conviently ignore the land that is a hellhole or totally useless (or both).

Who wants dibs on that one acre near the south pole?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I hope somewhere out there, must be some good people who will make and give free shoes and food for everyone.
Production line, robotic and computer can take care a lot of things.
Who will build that production line or computer? I hope someone will.
Does that mean engineer and technician still need to work?
Do we need a super computer to build a pair of shoe?

I'll take that south pole acre, as long as it's not on an ice river. talk about solar power abilities. subterrainian living quarters are not hard to heat either. Esp with a full acre of windmills and solar panels. However, it would be a shame to ruin such a natural phenomon with human presence. I would rather see dommed oceanic technology persued. but that also could have it's bad effects. The problam is not with available resources, but the lazy and wastefull nature on mankind. And the only true unlimited supply of anything I have ever seen, is greed.
imo.

edit in:
Or, you could try a finite resource game

"I'll take that south pole acre, as long as it's not on an ice river. talk about solar power abilities."

Not really. You only have sun for half the year, and the sunlight you do get is much less intense than at the equator.

"I would rather see dommed oceanic technology persued. but that also could have it's bad effects."

Everything does. It's a matter of trade offs..and personally I don't think we'll see many of these. Too dangerous, and I doubt you find many people eager to live somewhere where they can't go outside.

Here's a neat (and somewhat disturbing) example of what kind of problems dommed habits would have. Except in reverse.

Re: OT: What if we live in a infinite resources world like in SE4?

theoretically, energy does equal matter, but you need such tremendous amounts of energy as to be impossible (with anything that we know of)
Solar power has several problems:
Clouds for one, also solar power is very costly and low yield power wise. I personally think that we could cut down greatly on oil use if we all had solar panels on our roofs, but it would be expensive. I like the idea of building more dams, but it damages rivers very badly. Its controversial. Wind power looks interesting, newer wind mills can make more power and are cheaper than ever.
