Does homeworld riot?

I have been told that homeworlds will riot but I have done everything and they are still only angry. So is there way to make them riot? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Re: Does homeworld riot?

Your empire's natural happiness has a big effect, as do troops on the planets, ship in space over the homeworld, ships in the home system, etc etc etc.

Did you try firing on your own ships?

Re: Does homeworld riot?

I have tried out many things. I have modified happiness file "Our Troops on Planet := 100" and then built planet full of troops. I have plagued the planet, killed hundreds of millions of people and kept dozens of other empires' ships on its orbit. Always only angry.

I think what Pvk was trying to say: When you create your race, under characteristics/happiness, you can reduce your race's natural happiness down to 50%.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yes I can but that doesn't explain why homeworlds don't riot. So anyone remember seeing homeworld rioting?

Re: Does homeworld riot?

i seem to remember homeworlds rioting. im not positive about it, though.

I think it had to do with large numbers of other colonies being destroyed, or obscene numbers of enemy forces in system, or blocading.

but i could be thinking of other large planets, or confusing it with homeworlds being blocaded. its been a while, and my memory isnt all that great.

I've seen homeworlds riot. I can't remember the situation that caused it but I know they rioted because they were my homeworlds.

I should run some tests to find out if they riot or not... I shall return...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Ok, back... Just ran some turns with a couple empires in one lone system. I made both races with a happiness reduction and then I built some warships and blockaded some of the planets. (3 planets start for all empires) I could not get the planet to riot, all I could get out of them was Angry and Unhappy.

Hmmm, I wonder now if it was my home planets that were rioting that game. I could've swore it was... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Homeworlds will riot. They seem to have a built in bonus to resist rioting, but they will eventually riot.

Hmmm ya I remember my homeworld rioting once, but it was before Gold.

They riot in Gold as much as they did in pre-gold. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Well, that bonus have to be extremely big. I just tested it with my edited happiness file (Our Troops on Planet := 100) and built the planet full of troops (400). Then I went 50 turns forward: still Angry.

Re: Does homeworld riot?

Perhaps there is some kind of trigger like you have to lose a certain number of planets in a certain time before homeworld riots. Or something else like that.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">That's good, then my game I was talking about was my homeworlds. Had me worried there for a second, though I was losing my memory. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Does homeworld riot?

try a 2 player 10 planet start, in one system. glass 9 planets of one player, and blocade the Last one with 50 ships or so. and plague it.

if that does not work, then maybe Fyron is wrong.

Ragnarok February 20th, 2003 05:03 AM

Re: Does homeworld riot?

I'll try it now. Be back in a few...

Edit: Ok, I just tried it. I put 10 planets 2 empires, one system. Happiness reduction down to 50% for both races. Neutral happiness type for both. I built a couple ships and glassed nine of one empires planets and put 2 ships on the Last planet and blockaded it. Next turn they were angry. I have now been sitting on the planet for 2 years game time and the planet is back up to Indifferent. Sometimes they drop to unhappy again but by a turn or two they jump back to indifferent.

yeah, unless someone can provide a savegame file that demonstrates the contrary, i am going to guess that the man is right. they cant riot.

How about a screenshot? I have a PBW game where my HW rioted, but I don't want to post that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Stupid 1.67 game...

Edit:
Ok... it seems as if my HW was glassed in that catastrophe that caused those riots. *rollseyes* Guess I'll have to prove you wrong some other way. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Ok... if 9 glassed large HW planets and 300 ships orbiting the Last HW for decades won't drop it below Angry, I don't know what will. Guess I was wrong and HWs don't riot after all. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">At least not 9 glassed large HW planets and 200 ships (ship limit, I didn't remember raise it) orbiting the Last HW 50 turns wasn't enough to drop people happiness below Angry. So perhaps I'm right after all http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Does homeworld riot?

Well, I emailed MM about this, and here is the response:

Quote:

A homeworld will never riot. Their anger will go up but it maxes out at 80% (where 100% is required to riot). We had to impose this during beta testing because a newly started empire would have its one homeworld riot and that player's game would effectively be over.
<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">A planet designated as your HW cannot ever riot. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif But, if the HW is glassed, then recolonized, it can then be capable of rioting, as it is no longer a HW.

Re: Does homeworld riot?

Isn't "Homeworld" a colony type (like "mineral planet"). Would designating a planet as a homeworld be a cheesy way to stop a planet from rioting?

Fyron February 21st, 2003 02:34 AM

Re: Does homeworld riot?

I don't think that works Spoo. You could try testing it though. I think there is probably a special flag that is set to true for homeworld planets at the start of the game.

Re: Does homeworld riot?

I had homeworlds riot in a v1.78 PBW. Massive enemy ships in systems. Lost colonies. No ships of my own. etc etc.

Perhaps this is new to v1.84.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">You can add Homeworld as a new colony type but it doesn't work like homeworld. As Fyron said there is probably some kind of special flag for original homeworlds.

Fyron February 22nd, 2003 02:00 AM

Re: Does homeworld riot?

The answer I got from MM implies that you can not create new "homeworlds" mid-game.
