Drone bug
I am in a situation were the enemy has a fleet sitting over a warp point. I have enough drones on the other side to blow the ships to bits. I give the drones orders to attack the warp point. Next turn I see that third of the drones have warped but they all have been destroyed because they didn't warp together. Two thirds of the drones are still sitting on the other side with orders to warp.
I have seen drones attacking simultaneously when they aren't going through a warp point. My drones are identical so this isn't about having different amount of movement points. Can anyone confirm this bug? If this keeps happening I might lose the game. |
Re: Drone bug
Did you issue orders separately for each drone?

Re: Drone bug
Shift-select all of the drones at once, and warp them together. Giving separate orders causes separate execution of them. It is not a bug, it is how it is supposed to work. Unless, of course, you did shift-select them and give them all one big order. Then, it would be a bug. But, it does not sound like that is what you did. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Drone bug
I did shift-select them when I gave the orders. But even if i hadn't shift-selected them they should have all attacked. Now only part of them obeyd those orders. The rest are just waiting on the warp point with warp order visible in their order queue.

Re: Drone bug
They all had the speed to get there, right?

Re: Drone bug
Here is an example save game so you all can see it. download When you click end turn few times you see that only 5-7 drones warp each turn.

Re: Drone bug
I haven't looked at the savegame, but did you order the drones to attack the enemy fleet, or the warp-point leading to them?
I'm wondering whether the warp-point counts as "one" target for the "number of drones per target" under Strategies/Launching. |

Doesn't that only count in combat? Phoenix-D |
Re: Drone bug
To corroborate Zarix:
Have consistently observed the same problem with drones in 1.84. I’d call it a bug. |
Re: Drone bug
The drones don't seem to want to attack throught a warp point. I tried to order them to attack the ships instead of the warp point. They did attack but they didn't use the fastest route. The drones went throught the other warp point and attacked from same system where the ships were.
I tried the same thing so that the two systems are connected with only one warp point. In that case the drones didn't even move away from the planet. |
Re: Drone bug
I've been seeing the same thing. It's like the new attack warp point command is interpreted as meaning they should go through one at a time... or something.
Seems unsatisfactory for military use. What you can do though is send one drone as a scout, and if it survives http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif then you can see targets with it and order a salvo attack using the drones behind it. In simultaneous mode, though, that would tend to be a four-turn process. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif Turn 1: Launch scout drone (requires second launcher ship! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif ) Turn 2: Order scout drone to attack warp point. Turn 3: If drone survived and there are targets in the scouted system, launch drone salvo. Turn 4: Order drone salvo to attack target. Not very efficient... PvK |
Re: Drone bug
The bug is really bad because there is no sensible way to attack with drones through a warp point. With drones loaded in a carrier they get to the other side all at once but the enemy gets first shot so if the carried is destroyed the drones go with it. I have sent an e-mail about the bug to Aaron but no reply yet.
