Images changing?
Hi, I'm using TDM and the mod loader program to start my games. I have a problem with race pictures and ship sets changing each time I start the game. Not every race, but my race and some of the AI races. Otherwise everything is the same.
Clues as to how to fix this? thanks, Pathogen |
Re: Images changing?
That is caused by having an empire in the game that uses a ship set you do not have installed. In this case, they are not present in the TDM folder. If you add the appropriate ship sets to the TDM-Modpack\Pictures\Races folder, you can eliminate the problem.

Re: Images changing?
Alright! thanks! I have been living with that problem for months.
So if I download that Image pack mod and plug it into the appropriate place I should fix the race image problem? Or I suppose I can search through the ship sets I have and doewnload the missing ones individually. thanks again for that quick reply. Pathogen |
Re: Images changing?
The Image Mod has nothing to do with ship sets.

Re: Images changing?
Yeah, ImageMod won't help with ship sets. You'll need to check which ship sets every other empire is using, and then install those.
There are many of them on the Gold CD - chances are, most or all of them may be on there. Though, most SE4 shipsets are also easy to find on the web or PBW. PvK |
Re: Images changing?
Friend, Fyron is correct, you must find the set that does not have any ship images. That is most likely your problem. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Images changing?
Ok thanks everyone. I have homework to do.
I'm going to have to try some more of these mods. Proportions sounds like a big change in the game. The mod that changes the moons and planets sounds interesting also. Thanks again, Pathogen |
Re: Images changing?
I had the same problem the first time I played with TDM. I saved the game to the regular savegame folder since there was no savegame folder within TDM. If you do this, the game will look in the default race folders and not even consider looking in TDM. Make sure you create a savegame folder within the TDM folder and save your games there. Check this first before checking checking all those races and shipsets.

Re: Images changing?
yeah i had this problem where i thought i had installed the recent Version of the neo canadians and kept restarting games with their empire in, it was strange but after a couple of attempts i realised i hadn't unzipped all the files

Re: Images changing?
This is why mods are always supposed to have a Savegame folder in them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Images changing?
Mods intended for PBW play IMO shouldn't have Savegame folders.
"If you do this, the game will look in the default race folders and not even consider looking in TDM. Make sure you create a savegame folder within the TDM folder and save your games there. Check this first before checking checking all those races and shipsets." This isn't what has happened when I've done this; are you sure your path.txt still pointed to the TDM Modpack? Phoenix-D |

Re: Images changing?
I just copied the contents of my TDM-Modpack Races folder into my standard Races folder. Who wants to fight the original Sallega when you can take on the TDM one? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: Images changing?
"If you want to delete the Savegame folders and cause yourself more work, go right ahead."
Less work. I don't use the mod launcher, and having them all in the same directory means I don't have to change my unzip directory or my PBW upload directory- and eliminates the possibility of uploading an incorrect turn. Phoenix-D |

Not unzipping the savegame files to more than 1 folder eliminates the possibility of uploading an incorrect turn. |
Re: Images changing?
"I meant that it is more work keeping track of which savegame loads with which mod using your method. Using the mod launcher, you just extract it to the correct folder, and hit load. WinZip keeps track of the Last 10 folders you extracted files to, so that is not too much of a problem."
I find keeping track of which game uses which mod easier than keeping Winzip set to the right folder for each extracted savegame. "Not unzipping the savegame files to more than 1 folder eliminates the possibility of uploading an incorrect turn." No, it doesn't. There's this little thing called "user error." http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif I just hit unzip, its done, it isn't even possible for me to unzip to the wrong folder. Re: Images changing?
Adding a Savegame directory to TDM did the trick.
Thanks Grampa Kim |
Re: Images changing?
P-D:
Using the Mod Launcher eliminates the need to type in the path each time you load SE4. It also eliminates the need to hit Load Game, select your empire, and enter your password every time you load up a turn. All of this saved work greatly out weighs the little bit of effort involved in selecting the proper location to unzip the savegame to from the history drop down list in WinZip. |
Re: Images changing?
No it doesn't, because the first time I screw up and mis-zip the effort undoing the AI's brilliant ideas will more than outweigh that. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Also, simply paying attention to the game prevents sending in the wrong turn. Pay attention to the game date on PBW and in-game. Pay attention to the turn to see if you have played it before. Basically, open eyes prevent problems like this. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: Images changing?
And all that takes effort, which cancels out anything you mentioned before. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif
That and I should have said mis-upload rather than mis zip. The latter just sets up the former. Phoenix-D |
