For Honor, and no mercy !
Royal Manticoran Navy at your service ! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
It does not have its own AI, if anybody wants to put one for unmoded SE, I would greatly appreciate. I may make one for Proportions if find time. 1048292162.ZIP I'm not satisfied with some pictures and will try to improve this shipset. |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Oh, Dear...
I mixed up emperor title and emperor name http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/blush.gif Of cource tt should be: ---------- Emperor Name := Honor Harrington Emperor Title := Lady |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Very nice Shipset!
Is that a Grav Lance sticking out of the Escort? If so, nice touch http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
I liiiiiiiiiiiike it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Especially the transports and the Fighters.
Great job as always. |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Were the Manticoran ships plain silver? The design concepts are nice but the plain silvery surfaces don't look right. Find some good textures for it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Nice set. Two minor quibbles, aside from the already noted name bug. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
-you forgot to delete mephisto's terran_ai_general file. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif it's included. -Seeing Manticore with 50% trade is really, really ammusing. Phoenix-D |

The "real" Manticore AI should have "natural merchants" advanced trade, "merchant" culture and some trade bonus I think. |

Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
I forget the exact effect of the Grav Lance, but something that goes through shields and burns out shield generators would probably fit the bill.
Is it possible to ram a ship but not destroy both ships? The Grav Lance was a ramming weapon, wasen't it? |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
No, it just has a very short range. In HH universe, where ships fight each other millions of kilometers apart, it was quite close to ramming though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

"Is it possible to ram a ship but not destroy both ships? The Grav Lance was a ramming weapon, wasen't it?"
Not likely. The thing isn't a ramming weapon, just short-ranged, tempermental and a mass hog ('just') Since the wedges extend for kilometers beyond the ship, ramming directly wouldn't even be needed. When the wedges hit, the ship with the weaker wedge has its engine rooms blown to bits by the interference. Phoenix-D |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
it is a very, very nice shipset. monocolouring doesnt bother me much (my original Taera was monocoloured too..) and the shipset is awesome!
|
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Thanks http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I'll experiment with colors and make some extra neoexpansion images. |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
..Indeed, you have a very nice shipset there. In fact it was nice enough to inspire me...
1048459239.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/newup...1048459239.gif Here's a nice new shiny avatar extracted from your shipset. It's yours, all yours. Enjoy! (you might have noticed the ship has a bit more of a blueish tint than your set, but I did that to help it fit in with the background!) I hope you like it as much as I like your new shipset. Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I did want to make a more bluesh shipset, but it was a bit at odds with supposed RMN colors

Extra ships and infantry http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
If you want to use them in Proportions, rename colonyshiplarge to something else, I think regular colonyship is better looking. 1048552778.ZIP |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Very nice! All we need now is some Peeps and Graysons and we are in business... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
Thanx for the set! Talenn |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Thanks ! Yeah, it would be nice to have Peeps in the game but afraid I need some break for awhile http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

heh...
As David Webber remarked over on Baen's Bar, he regrets ever inventing the G*** L**** (http://dahak.ne.client2.attbi.com:80...grav_lance.htm) |

manticore_AI_general is there too. Terran file was left by mistake http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif Sorry
|
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
No problem. I just don't understand the AI files and cannot make a decision concerning the files without aid. Speaking of aid, manticore has no EMP files. How does one create them? And what happens if you play a game against a Manticore AI that has no EMP file?
|
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
.emp files are only used to add an empire in the game setup. When an AI is chosen randomly, it uses the settings in RaceName_AI_General.txt .
To generate an .emp file, start games with a large number of random AIs until the race you want is included, then take control of that race and Save Empire (on Game Menu [F2]). You'll need to repeat this for all three point levels (2k, 3k, 5k). |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Someone should upload this shipset to PBW. I quite like it, but it's a pain to use when it's not handily available to download by others in the game (IE, when I'm not the host http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )
Edit: Where do you guys think Weber'll go with the next book? He kinda threw everything back into the fire, so to speak, and things should get interesting. Heh... I've read the series 2 or 3 times so far http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif , but that still doesn't help predicting things. Any thoughts? Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Glad you like it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I don't visit PBW much. If you like, you can upload it there. I'll appreciate it http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |

Read up on your history of the Napoleonic Wars and you should pick up a few clues, I daresay. |

Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
I think he is creating the conditions for a general war that includes all of the current combatants as well as the most of the rest of human space. Whether or not this will happen remains to be seen, but the threat of such a war (and its effect on trade) will figure into the current combatants' calculations. Further complicating matters is the impending disintegration of the Solarian League which will lead to dozens of pocket empires and many brush-fire type wars. These may become involved in the current Manticore-haven war. He has a lot of ways to jump, but the whole of human space is definately more destabilised and the Haven-Manticore-Andermani tech bases have become more even then before the cease-fire. "Crown of Slaves" really blew the door open.
Several years ago I posted a note on a Harrington fansite postulating that the (then) unlocated Manticoran wormhole would lead to alien space, opening all kinds of possibilities. That, of course, did not happen. But still, if he ever needs to he can introduce aliens for the human factions to deal with. [ March 17, 2004, 02:48: Message edited by: solops ] |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
i had advance knowledge of something like this. i don't know where i read it, but something like 'a war that would eventually involve all of human space'.
and he has said there will not be any space-faring aliens. i think he means 'independant space-faring aliens', since the 'cats are already spacepassengering. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif and spacepassengercolonizing [ March 17, 2004, 05:31: Message edited by: narf poit chez BOOM ] |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
Oleg
The France analog is just past the Robespierre ("Rob S. Pierre". It is to weep.)Reign of Terror analog and the conniving Napoleon analog is just beginning his rise to power analog. Start of the Napoleonic wars is JUST where the series is. Don't forget how big an influence C.J. Forster's "Hornblower" series is on Mr Weber. And I, for one, can't wait. (I just like the word analog today.) |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
i have to say , i just love honor http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
i read another book by weber recently which was pretty cool - the non-honor-world-one-off which had a lot more tech... the 2 kids of the emporer of the human race do some fun things http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif anyone else read it? |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
The Dahak series? That's good fun, too.

Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
the book title is actually 'heirs of empire'
http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif its cool - anyone read it? |
Re: For Honor, and no mercy !
The Dahak trilogy can be found as a single compendium entitled Empire from the Ashes. I quite enjoyed those books as well, and he certainly left a lot to be done at the end, though I don't now if he has any intention of continuing in that universe. Seems kinda unlikely though.
There's also the 'March' series (March Upcountry, March to the Sea, March to the Stars), which is different again, but quite enjoyable. Any new book by Weber is something to look forward to, in my humble opinion http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif |

Someone beat me to it. the price of multitasking. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I think I have heard something in the baen forums about another dahak universe book, but I'm not sure wether it was someone qouting DW or just speculation. But there's definitly room for a sequal. [ March 23, 2004, 19:26: Message edited by: narf poit chez BOOM ] |
