New game: HomeComing3; suggestions and joining

We need a replacement player for homecoming 2: its a team based game, so you always have one partner, with whom you have to win the game, so also a good game for newbies, but NOT for quiters http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Game description:

Home coming 2

Thousand of years have past since the Last galactic war. As a result of this war many races had to leave their home planet searching for new resources and peace.
Some found what they were looking for, other perished.
Those that found a new world mostly lost their high technology and were confined to their new home planet.

Now after hundred of years some races have invented new ways to travel and explore space…

This is a team-based game
To avoid prearranged teams and races this game is set as followed:

Starting resources: 20000
Starting planets: 1
Home planet value: good
Score display: allied
Technology level: Medium
Racial points: 3000
Quadrant type: Custom
Quadrant size: depending on number of player (>10 = large)
Event frequency: None
Technology cost: Medium
Victory conditions: Team that colonize their home planet (see description of your race) with a space yard, mining miner-, Organics Farm- and a Radioactive extraction facility. Furthermore, when you have colonized your home planet, you have to mention this to all other races. When you have manage to keep your home planet after again 2 years (20 turns), then you have won the game.
Maximum units: 2000
Maximum ships: 500
Computer players: None
Neutral empires: No
Version: 1.78 (gold patch 2)

The game owner will start the game and will tune every race with one sentence that refers to the home planet where the race originated from.
Every race will have a partner race, which originated from the same planet: your team-mate (random) N.b. you can only win as a team!!
Because all races are scattered over the map, you have to find your partner.
The game owner will design a map and put all players somewhere on the map (taking in account the different team players), this will prevent random placement of each player/team-mates.

Further Rules:
- Maximum alignment with non-team mates: Trade Alliances!
- Intel is on
- No computer or neutral players
- No Ancient race Trait!!
- Max 100 mines per sector

If I had one advice to give, it would be to try a solo game in simultaneous turn. You will see what you can do and not do while "programming" ships for the nextturn. It's quite usefull, before starting playing.
I you're OK with simultaneous concepts, I have nothing left to tell you. Oh, just one thing left : Beware of Weyrlings... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

I thought we had a replacement...what happened? Or, is phaet about to be added?? I hope it's soon!!

This is great news!!! I'd hate to see a player miss out because their partner is an AI!!! Especially now that game is really starting to get going!

I already have a replacement player, but he just have to log in...so therefore I kick that other guy. Nothing personal, but first in first out.

Glad to know it wasn't personal. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif I'd hate to be on anyone's blacklist, especially since I haven't played against you. Guess I'll have to wait for Homecoming 3. Dum dee dum dee dum... *drums fingers on table* Is it ready yet? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: New game: HomeComing3; suggestions and joining

No sorry Krsqk, is was certainly not personal.
I already had a replacement player. And normally is for me first in first out.
But I like the idea of starting a new homeComing3, but I don't know if I should start it already. but maybe if there are enough people... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif .
Then I can host that game.
So This treath will be open for suggestions and applies to join Home Coming 3.

This is the standard game description:

Being a participant in Homecoming 1 & 2, I can only see 2 things.
1) Some partners were too close. I currently know every body but my partner, who happens to be the one that quit, and there are 2 races already partnered. They are on either side of me. As I have only explored about 1/4 of the map, I have to wonder how these 2 got so close.

2) I know there is no way too get a 100% guarantee of no quitters, but this is an important issue in a team game.

Re: New game: HomeComing3; suggestions and joining

Gandalph, it will be frightening when you do meet your partner. Your stats are awesome. Looks like you have come a long way in PBW games. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Cheeze, don't worry about your partner. I may release them from the subjection treaty eventually. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

And finally- meeting your partner is not everything. There are some definite newbies in the mix... and some players are more enthusiastic and helpful than others. But that part is the random partner factor. You may have to work with an international partner; and find that your communications were not as clear as you thought they were...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">I have only met three other races so far in Homecoming 2. I don't think that we have met yet. And how do you know that it was your partner who quit? It is hard to understand that you can have met everyone in the game if you have only explored 1/4 of the map. Please explain...Greybeard

Yes gandalph, you put the finger on the right spot: Quitters http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon8.gif .
So far we had one quitter and that probaly due to the war in iraq, Drizzt321 told me that he has some things to do in the army, but that he would be bak on the 22 of march. But that was offcourse before the war started.
So for now I'm, slightly positive http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

And the point about the placement of player and offcourse partner placement.
I have made the map and put all the starting points on them. Then Angelique (my wife) made the team and placed them on the map and tried to have a equal distance between the partners.
So that should be done fairly good.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

But like stonemill said: if you have to what more experienced player, they should made contact far sooner then maybe newbie. Who are more interessted in first colonizing their surroundings and then make scout for mapping of the galaxy.
Just an idea http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Stone Mill - Thanks, I have always been a quick study when my butt gets whooped, that's basically how I learned to play chess, and I have taken my share of beatings on PBW.

Sparhawk - BTW, you can count me in on Homecoming 3, it has been an enjoyable experience.

If some one wants to join or has any suggestion, please put in the forum.

Thanks

OK, but do we want to change something: like win conditions or maybe team of 3 or 4.
Or maybe prepared teams. So you join with two people who are a team...

I'm definitely in for Homecoming 3, if you'll allow me to join!! I like this game. I still would prefer more flexibility in treaties...however, I can always find that option in other PBW games. So far, this one has been great fun already!

Although I wish I knew where my partner is!! Stone Mill, if you are subjugating them, you'll make me have to pay you a visit. And with my long sideburns and my hair slicked back, I'm coming to your town in my pink cadillac. I'm just a honky-tonk man. I'm cool, I'm cocky, I'm bad!!!

I am finally leaving Homecoming 2. This has been a Great Game! In this game, my partner was eliminated before I met him; I was confined in exandable space; and I was in between 2 Religious Partners who met each other early. I played the spoiler as long as I could and eliminated 1 of the religious partners, then forced the other Religious player (who has been in first place the majority of this game) to concentrate on the damage I could do.

I had a great time with this and look forward to Homecoming 3.

Re: New game: HomeComing3; suggestions and joining

I'm still in the game after being on the brink of destruction once, one planet and no ships left...

It's one of the most interesting games I've played as the battle goes back and forth, capture systems, loose them, recapture them.
Oops lost them to intel...
Build more intel facilities, darned, the fleet got wiped out...
Rebuild the fleet, attack, oops I'm attacked... retreat.. etc
And having a partner pre-defined was fun, first to find him and then to have him, I wouldn't have survived this far without him!

Currently doing turn 218..
The only PBW game, heck the ONLY GAME, preiod, that I'm playing now.
