Fantasy Empires Mod
Here is the beta Version of the Fantasy Empires Mod (FEmod).
1048796139.zip Unzip to your Space Empires IV Gold directory. Suggest using the ModLauncher program to launch it. There is no ai yet, so you can play around with research and ship design, but there won't be anything for you to kill (unless you play against other humans, of course) Most of the art is either temp, and horrific to gaze upon, or default SE4 art. Other art is from Magic: The Gathering. Please give me feedback! Post here, or email me directly. Thanks! Have fun! -Spoon |

FEmod. The iron mod? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
So, is this based off of the game Fantasy Empires, or is that just a coincidence? edit: It should be "elven", not "elfin". Also, "orchish" has an extra "h" in it. I suggest moving the Elven, Orcish and Undead racial tech traits to the top of the file. This will force people to see them, so they will more likely remember to take one. Re: Fantasy Empires Mod
You may want to consider reorganizing the components file by type, not tech req. It is a bit confusing to have different types of comps inter-mingled together. It would IMO be best for all armors to be together, all shields together, all weapons together, all sensors together, etc. The order of the Groups doesn't matter.
Also, did you see the edits to my first post? [ March 27, 2003, 21:20: Message edited by: Imperator Fyron ] |

Re: Fantasy Empires Mod
Tolkien is not the ultimate authority on the English language. "Elfin" implies fairy-like. Elves in this sense are not fairies at all.

Components will just be like the Vehicle Portraits (ie, M:TG pictures). Not sure what to do about the "starmap". All my amateurish efforts towards making a background resulted in the blinding of my test monkeys. Planets/Warpoints etc depend on what the "starmap" looks like, so holding off on that as well. |
Re: Fantasy Empires Mod
Get some grass textures (search on Google) and make the "starmap" look like a field of grass. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
Maybe the grass on this page? Or this page. [ March 27, 2003, 22:02: Message edited by: Imperator Fyron ] |
Re: Fantasy Empires Mod
I made a nice grass background image for you. Of course, the planets look weird, as they are meant to have black backgrounds. I think they black boxes will disappear if you turn on the masking in SystemTypes.txt.

Still, though, kind of jarring with the rest of the blue and black in the UI. Maybe if I change the blues to greens? Thanks a lot. Let it be known that Fyron knows where to get good grass. |
Re: Fantasy Empires Mod
can't be iron. all the fairies would get burned. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Spoon, what are you talking about?

You mean how it looks with the rest of the UI? All that green doesn't look good with the default color scheme for SE4. Fortunately, I can change the colors for the main window from SE4 Blue to MSPaint Green. Strangely, and I think there was a thread on this, you can't mod all the UI art elements. Namely, the windows that pop up, like the Ship Design Window, Planets window, etc. |
Re: Fantasy Empires Mod
hey, wait a minute...if there is no spoon, then this post doesn't exist and i'm having a delusion!
