Problem with map editor.

Does anyone know exactly how to add ruins and unique ruins to planets with the map editor?
When I do, the ruins icon and text show up on the planet window, but nothing happens if the planet is colonized.

When the map editor generates a random map, planets with ruins show them as the "Combat Movement" ability. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif This makes no sense, and you can't set a planetary ability to Combat Movement, anyway.

Been awhile since i did this so I might be wrong.

When adding them manually you have to assign the planet a value. A ruin and how many techs or specified unique tech number.
You do this by using the drop down menues when creating the planet.

(Bad explanation but I don't have the editor infront of me, if no one comes up with a better explanation I'll put up abetter answer tomorrow).

About the auto generated maps I have no clue why that happen.

Exactly. That method completely doesn't work. I said that. The ruins appear to be there, but when you colonize the planet, nothing happens.

Looking again, I can't find any mention of the map editor on Malfador.Com, anymore. What's up with that?

Ok.
You set numbers aswell? for the numbers of techs to be found?
It worked for me the Last time I tried. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/confused.gif

Yes.

The randomly placed ruins work fine, but they are labled "Combat Movement" under the planet's abilities. The manually placed ruins show up but do not work.

Ok, then I'm at a loss to why it happens, sorry.

This is a known bug that was introduced by the v1.49 patch. It wasn't fixed until Gold beta v1.52.

Nope.
The game still works.
But you can buy a working map editor for $40 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Does that mean the fix (other than to buy Gold - Which I now have) is to have a 1 copy of SE using an earlier patch and 1 copy of SE with patch 1.49 and using the earlier copy of the editor it will work?

Grazic, that should work fine. Patch the second copy to 1.41 (I think that was the patch before 1.49) to get as many fixes as possible in it.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Unfortunately, no. The nature of the bug is such that v1.49 will not recognize ruins in a map saved in any Version the Map Editor. The only way to get ruins in v1.49 is to let them be placed randomly by the v1.49 Setup screen.

Can't you just create a random map, save it, and then edit it in the map editor?

You wouldn't be able to add new ruins worlds, but you could move 'em around and build systems around them, right?

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">No; as soon as you save the map in the Map Editor, v1.49 can't recognize the ruins any more.

[Edit] On second thought, one thing I didn't test was creating a map in Gold, then loading that map in v1.49. I don't know if Gold maps are compatible with v1.49. I'd expect that they aren't, since Gold has system types that v1.49 doesn't.
