PvK help!! Re: Your Proportions Mod
I have installed the Proportions mod into my SE4 directory.
I can play a game using one of the 8 modified empires that came with it (Abbidon 2k). But I cannot get it to load the Amonkrie empire from SE 1.84/Proportions/Pictures/Races/Amonkrie. I can select the Amonkrie empire, but it does not appear in the "Load Empire" Window. EDIT: Oops...it is Version 2.5.3.1 for NGC Proportions. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ April 10, 2003, 17:47: Message edited by: tbontob ] |

I suggest you create only your own Empire and then play against random AI empires. |
Re: PvK help!! Re: Your Proportions Mod
Yes, do as Aloofi said. Most of Proportions' empire files are screwed because of constant changes and upgrades. Start new game with random AI and then save empire files for all races you want to add later in game setup !

tbontop, you have any luck?

Also, I don't think there is any Proportions EMP file for the Amon'krie. I would suspect you're trying to load a non-Proportions EMP file which somehow got into your Proportions empires directory, which of course won't work because Proportions has always changed the racial traits around. If you want to create an Amon'krie EMP file, though, it's fairly easy to do so. Just set up a new game with the desires empire point level, and tell it to randomly generate many AI empires (but no neutrals) and chances are good an Amon'krie will be one of them. Then change them to human control from the game menu during play, End Turn until you are in control of the Amon'krie, and save their empire file. Note that there are three variants of every AI empire, and each one is different at each point level, so there are about 4 x 3 = 12 slightly different Versions of each race. Thontob... if the picture is not their make sure you have the Amonkrie_Race_Portrait.bmp File in the pictures/races/amonkrie And make sure it is 128x128 picture. If it is not their just copy the stock picture their.

Thanx guys for you input. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I may have found another way to create an empire for the proportions mod. Either that or I didn't understand someone's instructions. What I did was: 1) Start a new game. 2) Added Existing ... Abbidon 2K 3) Modified the Abbidon 2k Empire to the Amonkrie Empire. 4) Saved the new Empire as Amonkrie 2k I think this should work. I'll soon find out if I screwed it up. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif |
Re: PvK help!! Re: Your Proportions Mod
That will use the Abbidon AI instead of the Amon'Krie AI, which is not really a good thing to do.

The empire I created has the Amonkrie avatar, the Amonkrie flag and the Amonkrie shipset. I selected the Amonkrie from the "Race Portrait/Ship Style" pictures. Will it still use the Abbidon AI? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif |

Is it really screwed up? EDIT: The standard Amonkrie Empire has different atmosphere, home planet type,Culture, Advanced Traits and different racial points alloted to Physical Characteristics and Vocational Aptitudes from the one I created. [ April 12, 2003, 02:45: Message edited by: tbontob ] |

Believe it or not, this was easier for me as I had already done most of the work in creating the new Amonkrie Empire. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif And I am was uncertain how to "randomly generate" the Amonkrie Empire and then use it. When I am under a lot of uncertainty, I like to fall back on those things I feel I know something about. I have learned a lot about proportions and the game will probably teach me more. I will take your advice in any future proportions game I may play. Your choice of words in "If you changed all race characteristics to be in line with Amonkrie_AI_general file" is interesting. I have modified other races such as the Cue Cappa without any consideration as to whether it is "in line" with that race's _AI_general file. What does it need to be in-line with? |
Re: PvK help!! Re: Your Proportions Mod
tbontob,
it only matters at all if you are going to have the AI or ministers controlling the empire. If you're controlling the empire yourself then it will be fine. As for people saying the empire will be mixed up if things don't match, they were talking about AI control. The only problem there is if you set an empire to use the AI that matches its ship set, and then change the empire charactersistics so its AI isn't well suited to its abilities. This is mainly a problem if the AI for the shipset is programmed to use racial technologies, but the new empire doesn't have the same racial traits. In the case of the Piundon, they are set up to use the Aggressive AI rather than the Piundon AI, so they should be ok, Oleg. I just ran a test in 2.5.3.1 and they seemed to be doing fine using non-racial weapons. PvK |

Thanks PvK http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
I do not use ministers so that should not be a problem. But I suspect there is an situation which may be a problem. It is the case of missed turns. I seldom miss a turn in a PBW game, but when I do, I would think the AI would try to use the Amonkrie ministers to make the move for the turn. And changing the characteristics of the empire means they will not make good decisions. Would this be an accurate assessment? EDIT: We all know the ministers do not make good decisions even in the best of cases. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif The question is whether the decisions will be worse when an amateur (like me) changes the stock empires characteristics. Re: PvK help!! Re: Your Proportions Mod
Well, one thing to do would be to specify one of the three generic AI's: Neutral, Defensive, or Aggressive, instead of the shipset based one, for your empire file. This is set during empire creation.
The other thing to do is in each PBW game, to go and specify that the "AI should not make any changes to the empire" when you miss a turn. This is under Empire / Settings during play. PvK |

I had no idea what the "Minister Style" setting was for. Maybe more to the point, I had never thought how its setting could affect the game. Your second suggestion was also something I had never paid any attention to. I know I am not the only one, since it is not unusual for the AI of a person who has missed a turn to declare war on someone. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon6.gif Thanx PvK http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: PvK help!! Re: Your Proportions Mod
Earlier the "AI makes No changes" settings didn't work.
It was a surprise for me recently when I found out it had started working! http://www.shrapnelgames.com/cgi-bin...;f=23;t=008746 [ April 13, 2003, 13:04: Message edited by: Ruatha ] |
