Nice. I like them.

Re: I Make Ships

They are beta images. They are basic at this point. I am thinking about using them in one form or another for a new ship set.

I am getting bored with DOGA and want to learn Moray and Povray. I have them both, and have worked through the first few tutorials of Moray a while back. I just had a lot of negative things going on in my life back then and could not dedicate the attention required to learn them.

DOGA is much easier to learn, but is very limited. I could make new shapes for DOGA with the expansion tool, but it too is kinda hard to learn. I have actually made a few parts, but they all look like crap.

I want to be in a position to produce Star Trek and other ships for Star Fury and SE V if I can. And as Kwok has said, that might be easier said than done.

Re: I Make Ships

Nice look, and even very nice color IMO. But could you make them a bit smoother around the edges, when seen from the side? Reminds me of old car designs from the 50s - nice, but too old for a SciFi game http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: I Make Ships

very nice, and i like the hard-edged look. it does remind me of old muscle cars, or old Korean War era dog-fighters..

im just not sure about are the wings. i know there have been lengthy discussions about wings in space before, and before anyone starts, i already know all the arguements. Its just that if they are going to be there, maybe they shouldnt be so thin and flimsy, to suggest that they have some purpose besides aesthetics or aerodynamics?

also, im not sure about the red bump on the front. im not sure if it reminds me of a clown nose, a pimple, or a nipple. either way, it makes me worry. maybe if it was a sharper cone, instead of a bump on a dome. or maybe if it was a rectangular protrusion, like the other red bumps.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Who says all space ships have to be curved? That gets boring after a while. Variety is the spice of life!

Re: I Make Ships

Hrmm... none of those things bother me. The only thing I would say is the surface of the ship is to me a little lacking in texture... just a slick slippery blue. My eyes just don't like that for some strange reason that I cannot really define. I like more texture.

I really like them though.

And as was said. What does a space vehicle need with curves? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif What does it need with a textured surface for that matter either. Just a preference of mine. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

The color and texture of the ships kinda make me think of a spacefaring race that was originaly aquatic...just my opinion...but either way, i like the ships.

Re: I Make Ships

It did not take you all long to see the face. LOL I was wondering if any one would point that out. I laughed when I first noticed it after I rendered the image. LOL.

I started out by making my ships set according to my Tutorial (On the Gold CD) then I moved onto DOGA. I have taken a few of the tutorials for Moray, but like I have said, my mind just could not absorb the information because of RL issues. Now that I feel better I may try it again and soon.

Otherwise I am going to hang up the ship set making business and move on to bigger and better things.

IMO Moray is a program superior to DOGA in all but the cost - you pay for Moray. I like moray and have been using it for years now. If you are skilled indeed you can try on Povray. Ultimate graphical tool for no cost (i dont count the highend progs like Lightwave or 3dMax). Its programming, like C or Pascal, but the results are awesome. Moray misses many tools Povray has, but im not going to give myself the headache of Povray

And yes, Povray _IS_ required for Moray to work.

Re: I Make Ships

Huh!!? What is this crap that you are not going to make any more ship sets? Is this true or is this just rumor that is being passed along ICQ?

Out of all the people who have generated ship sets, I will wager that the ones that you have produced are among the top most downloaded and used. I would hate to see you get out of the game, as it would be a sad day in SE: IV gaming if you did.

Perhaps I misread your post, can you elaborate?
