Point Defense

I tried a while back, but it didn't seem to work.

But maybe after so many patches it is working now:

Can a Point Defense type weapon be set to target ship or planet ?

Thanks for the help.

Re: Point Defense

I don't think any recent patches have changed how point defense works.

So Point Defense still only automatically target fighters and seekers...

Thanks.

and mines, if, for some odd reasons lauched during combat (or if using a mod, like Devnull)

Re: Point Defense

Can you launch mines during combat? If so, do they hurt your ship (if you ram them) or are they just garbage in the space?

Fyron May 15th, 2003 08:15 PM

Re: Point Defense

Yes you can launch them during combat. They are useless junk if you do so (until combat is over). Warheads only do damage when the equipped vehicle is the rammer, not the rammee. Mines get to ram ships with no limits when they enter the sector, which is why they do damage to them. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: Point Defense

Quick question.

100 fighters in a sector. Enemy ship moves into same sector. Are all 100 fighters in the same dang stack?

If not, how does the game break them up?

Re: Point Defense

It depends on how the 100 fighters were launched. They will be in the same breakdown into fighter Groups that they appear to be when you select them on the system map. Often, ya, they'll all be in one 100-fighter pig-pile. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif

Re: Point Defense

You can launch them in custom sized Groups in sequential games, but not simultaneous games, which really, really sucks. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Re: Point Defense

You *can* launch them in custom size Groups in simultaneous - just set the "Fighter Launch Group Size" entry or whatever in the appropriate entry in Strategies!

Re: Point Defense

That only affects combat launches.

After combat the fighters all get recovered, and you're still stuck with launching one big stack for the system map.
