SE4 Movies
This is about those movies that fit perfectly in the SE4 universe.
1- The Impostor. We get here a beautiful (and shielded) Homeworld, spies with nukes, counter-intelligence proyects level 3, "police troops", a war with an alien race, small colonies being glassed, and an anti-planet drone being built. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif 2- Starship Troopers. We get Infantry units, a meteorite strike random event, an intelligent insect hive with organic technology, an starbase, invaded colonies, glassed colonies, and weapon platforms with organic weapons. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif 3- Independence Day. We get a neutral being glassed with a ripper beam, shielded carriers, shielded fighters, a captured ship retrofited with capital ship missile level 1, and the neutrals have tiny fighters that are capable of taking out a carrier. 4- Enemy mine. Very old movie with an starbase, mining colony and a reptile alien race. 5- Wing Commander. Carriers, Destroyers, Small, Medium and Large fighters, torpedos, Tachyon sensors, Boarding parties, and even warp points. 6- The 5th Element. Cultural centers, Starliners, etc. . |

To properly match that film to se4 we'd need the much-requested "volatile component" ability for those carriers. Quote:

mmm... Leeloo... *drools* Don't forget "The Last Starfighter". |
Re: SE4 Movies
I'll agree with most of those. I've never heard of a sci-fi movie called Imposter though. Maybe a foreign film? But I think the most obvious movie that wasn't mentioned was Star Wars. You know, large imperial fleets crushing small rebel fleets/planets. Star Trek wasn't mentioned either, but forcibly taking planets and getting into interstellar wars was never the Federation way (nor Roddenberry's vision of the future). There are probably other movies that could fit into the SEIV universe, but I can't think of any right now.

The Impostor is a 2002 B-movie with Gary Senise and Madeleine Stowe. They were playing it in one of the movie channels. The story is in the second half of this century, and first contact was with a race that we call the Centaury because first contact was in Alpha Centaury. They are "genetically superior" (genetic manipulation?) to us, and they don't want to negotiate, they want Earth.... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Earth is covered with a shield to protect from the frecuent Centaury bombing raids, and there are frecuent engagement between Earth fighters and Centauries. We have colonies in Alpha Centaury, and one of them got glassed, so our Chancellor vowed revenge. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif The Centaury then send one of their new "cyborg clones" that carry inside its heart the new secret Centaury U-Bomb to atent to kill the Chancellor, and Earth's counter-intelligence have to stop him. I think this movie is a perfect SE4 movie. It fits like a glove. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif Are there any other movies that I should add to my "SE4 collection"? . |

Re: SE4 Movies
Not a movie, but TV series:
Andromeda: Transit Via Slipstream: Portals that link multiple star systems (not exactly warppoints, but damn close) Anti Proton cannons, Missiles, Point Defense, Lack of newtonian movement, Fighters, Drones, planetary bases, weapons platforms, racial bonuses, point singularity weapons (null space cannons) Stellar manipulations, ships that don't wear down over time, AI's, troops/vehicles, and more! Ever get the feeling the writers/producers of Andromeda are SEIV fans? |
Re: SE4 Movies
I think I've seen it in the guide, but I never checked out cause I thought it was a series about that old movie of the same name.

Re: SE4 Movies
Andromeda's awesome, but I started getting sporadic with it ever since the third season. All of a sudden, the Commonwealth was reestablished and I feel like I missed a few eps when I didn't. Ah well, working on the DVD collection. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
There was also the old Space: Above and Beyond series. No shields, carrier/fighter reliance. zen |
Re: SE4 Movies
It is criminal what Executives do to good Sci-Fi TV.
First Andromada was a good show, then it took a 90 degree turn and poof things changed overnight. Farscape, another fine example of a very weird, yet surprisingly good show turned into cannon fodder by the Exec's. Then we have B5 and its spin off Cursaders. The Last season of B5, year six, was half assed produced on a micky mouse budge with lack luster stories and no support from TBS. Cursaders was never given a chance. Space Above and Beyond was another great show that was never realized. Good old FOX, the moment a show's Ratings dip, usually about episode 1, they cancel it. They never give a show a chance, example Fire Fly. Stargate SG1 is once again revived, but will it Last? Its on the Sci-Fi network, so who the hell really knows what will happen. (New super "uber" geek producers, dumb *** writers, and a budge equal to what I spend on wrapping paper a year. (NOTE: I spend very very little to no money each year on wrapping paper.) Earth Final Conflict, never really got this show and never watched it. So my opinion on this one is void. Lexx, hated it. In now way, except the far fetched, could this show ever be compared to SEIV. Battlestar Galactica (Original) What a waste to let this show go. What an absolute waste. Battlestar Galactica 1980 Urge! Utter crap and needed to be canceled. Battlestar Galactica Revisited (Sci-Fi Network) I hold out little hope for this show to be successful given the Sci-Fi channels history with budges and long term support. Hey Space 1999 is out on DVD if any one is interested. Buck Rogers was an interesting show, I especially liked the women, and the episode with the space vampire. |

Re: SE4 Movies
Have anyone mentioned the "V" TV serie ? these ugly lizards and their huge ships would make a good concept for a shipset...
