Experience points for a race: What the heck?

Do these just show how much you've played a certain race or what?

Yeah, pretty much.

Actually, it's a good thing IMO... if they actually had any significant impact on the game, that would mean that some races start out with an advantage just because you played them more, which reeks to me of creeping munchkinism...

They were originally supposed to give some sort of bonus to your empire; but it was decided that it would be too easy to exploit this in not only single player but also multiplayer, so Aaron took it out.

BTW, I noticed recently that you can edit your empire however you like for a new game, and it won't reduce in experience.

I use race age for roleplaying purposes.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Just like fleet experience... Yeah, we're an experienced fleet... nevermind the fact that 90 percent of our ships haven't even seen each other, much less an actual hostile alien vessel http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

there's another use for ages i've never seen noticed before - you can judge the power of an empire by their age. for example if you're infantile you should examine a young enemy carefully - but a newborn would be an easy target. and so on, can be quite useful. remember that age stands for military victories, researches and stuff built so races higher than you should be dealed with carefully http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Unless, of course, you start out with an Ancient age. Good luck trying to use that to guage my empire's strength. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

*shrugs* thats not a good idea for normal games. might seem unfair, dont you think?

Fyron May 23rd, 2003 10:02 AM

Re: Experience points for a race: What the heck?

No, it is not unfair. Racial age does nothing, as do other things like demeanor. Is it unfair to pick a certain demeanor? Hardly.

fyron, you know what i mean. im not getting into this discussion now.

I'm not entirely sure what you mean at this point, but I still hold that it is in no means "unfair". Fairness does not really apply.

A cool thing about saving your races.... Time in and Time out... ( I am doing it in the Koth games)
(Make sure none of your designs are obsolete )
is that all the stats for each ship and unit carry over.

So say you build a 325si for a cruiser attack class ship you get to see how many you have built over the games , how many you lost, and how much KT they have killed.

It is really really cool....

I like that so much more than the age thing...
