How many SEIV games is enough?
 

Ok, I have had the game for about 2 months now and I am in 5 PBW games and 1 solo game (though the solo game does not hold my attention very long, something about not being able to re-do a turn if I make a mistake). And you know what? It aint enough!!! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif I can't wait till the next turn!!! I check the site "just incase" a turn is up.

Heck, I COULD do other things, but I don't wanna!!! I want my game fix and I want it NOW http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

So, how many games at the same time will I need to get into so I have that constant fix? Or should I look for a 12 step program now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Naaah, as long as you enjoy yourself. But 5 games at a time seems enough to me though. Anymore would make the games more like fastfood. Now you still maintain the depth and uniqueness of every games. This is one of the things i like about SEIV: every game feels different.

Truthfully you will get radically different numbers from Warlord Ragnorak than from me. Rags gets max fum playing many games quickly; I get max fun playing a few games perfectly! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I can play a large empire in about 20 minutes or less, while alot of players take 2 or 3 hours to do those same turns. I think the Fyron guy holds the record for the most games at one time. He made a thread about it a while back, but I forget how many games he was actually in at the time. Somthing like 20.

Right now I am playing 14 and running 4.

Record play was 22 by me... It was too much...

( I think that 8 games is good if there at a 2 day clip plus a koth game )

I enjoy running games. And making maps for people.

so, how do you get through the turns fast? i normally take 2 to 30 minutes from start to 'i know i can win', which is when i normally get bored and quit. but, the only times i visit all my planets in one turn is when i get computers 3. the rest of the time, if it doesn't come up as a subject in the log or a triangle on the map i ignore it.

I save my races... and use them in the next game.... I have 4 standard races a 2k, 3k, 5k and a koth one.

I save them at the end of a game with all the ships and build ques etc...

Then I just tweek them for games as needed...

That helps... ( And the ship libary is quite huge , as is the planet build que list )

Then I just automate as much as possible and pretend I know what is going on with the RP and treaties.... ( some times i get mixed up... as some posters here can tell you ... I am sure they do it as well.... I once declared war on Nodachi in 4 games in 2 days he he.... )

In answer to the original question.

Here's how not to work out how many games is enough.

Start up a couple of games. Get really impatient after the first month that they're only just getting going, and you want to play more SEIV NOW! Start a couple more games, including one 10-planet start which should be big from the beginning. Find you're enjoying it so much, you want to play MORE! Start up another game, and take over a couple of empires in existing games.

At this point discover that your original games have now matured to 90-minute-a-turn monsters, and you find that most of your spare time is spent feeding the SEIV beast. But it's still fun.

Then real-life intrudes, work gets busy, and suddenly the Last thing you want is two urgent deadlines a night, every night, when you get home.

Drop out.

This is a real story, it happened to - a friend. Yes, a friend. Heed his warning. Everything in moderation.

As player maybe two games are ok,but As Game Master is one enough because you will have enough to do with finding every 2 day's an new replacement player for your game. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

Ok, I have decided for myself, the games I am in are enough. Today I got up, was drinking some coffee and opened a turn that I got (a game I took over for someone) and was looking at it, and saw this one empire in a system that I didn't think he should be there, then saw that I had a T & R treaty with him, and was saying to myself "how the hell did I get a treaty with THAT guy, I was planning on killing him off" then realize that I was CONFUSING 2 different games, though that player was in both games with the same race.

So...I answered my own question, in my own way. Either that, or don't open a turn when I first wake up http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
