who is a winner, if..
if... the winning condion is a "galaxy at peace"
All ? or the mightest empire who forced the global peace by flexing its muscles ? |
Re: who is a winner, if..
nobody wins, all lose. A galaxy at peace is an evil thing http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif .

Re: who is a winner, if..
The winner(s) are the players who have survived.
Usually a team of players who have conquered some other team of players. |
Re: who is a winner, if..
I'd have to second Rollo here. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif Techincally, the survivors are labeled "winners", but it is a hollow victory (very hollow). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Re: who is a winner, if..
So, because it was only an allied "victory", you would be saying Canada (or US or Britain or [insert country of choice here]) "lost" after World Wars 1 and 2?

Keep in mind SE4 is a game, and has no bearing on reality. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: who is a winner, if..
And apart from that the world was hardly at peace, even after the world wars (sad but true).

Re: who is a winner, if..
I'm with SJ, more or less. All the remaining empires tie, and the destroyed or subjugated/exiled/smashed ones lose.
However, it'd be more interesting to add some other conditions. For example, the players should have some other difficult goal(s), but the game only ends after X years at peace. If peace ends the game before anyone has completed their goal, they tie. If competition is something the players want, then peace ending the game can be a way to force players into a war. PvK |

Re: who is a winner, if..
Basically IMHO, a good Peaceful victory is. If a Player obtains a substantial enough Point lead, that results in VICTORY. That was achieved, mostly by Peaceful and/or Defensive Means.
For Example: A Science Culture: used Stellar Manipulation to achieve many self Created Planets and or Ring - Sphere Worlds to afford an infrastructure that could maintain Large Fleets to defend his or her Empire. Engineering Culture: Same as some above but to include Planet Engineering with the all the benefits that Planet Atmosphere and Value Improvements may yield. Merchants Culture: Thru Trade Agreements and his or her own Cunning that has achieved the goal for Victory in a Peaceful and Defensive way. Workers Culture: Same as Above, but trugh Resourse extraction and his or her own Cunning that has achieved the goal for Victory in a Peaceful and Defensive way. This may sound like Role Playing, or AI programming, but I also feel it is a Play Style for many strat gaming Players. Not all of us will want to have a total Shot-em-up style game, if possible, however we all can't be Empire Builders and must deal with the: Warrior, Schemer, Zealot, Renegades not mention the Berserker Style of play, we encounter in our Multiplayer games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif [ June 09, 2003, 14:05: Message edited by: JLS ] |

Re: who is a winner, if..
Yeah, SE4 is very realistic.
Or you really think some nice aliens are going to finance an expedition to our system for free? . . [ June 09, 2003, 14:35: Message edited by: Aloofi ] |
