You attack your allies and take their empires from them. Do this now before they read this thread. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: What happens after victory?

Basically IMHO, a good Peaceful victory is. If Player obtains a substantial enough a Point lead, that results in VICTORY. That was achieved, mostly by Peaceful and/or Defensive Means.

For Example:
A Science Culture: used Stellar Manipulation to achieve many self Created Planets and or Ring - Sphere Worlds to afford an infrastructure that could maintain Large Fleets to defend his or her Empire.

Engineering Culture: Same as some above but to include Planet Engineering with the all the benefits that Planet Atmosphere and Value Improvements may yield.

Merchants Culture: Thru Trade Agreements and his or her own Cunning that has achieved the goal for Victory in a Peaceful and Defensive way.

Workers Culture: Same as Above, but trough total Planet Resourse extraction and his or her own Cunning that has achieved the goal for Victory in a Peaceful and Defensive way.

This may sound like Role Playing, or AI programming, but I also feel it is a Play Style for many strat gaming Players. Not all of us will want to have a total Shot-em-up style game, if possible, however we all can't be Empire Builders and must deal with the:

Warrior, Schemer, Zealot, Renegades not mention the Berserker Style of play, we encounter in our Multiplayer games http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

This may look like a duplacate post, but I mispelled more words in the preveous thread http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: What happens after victory?

The peace VC means that attentive players will need to have a war with someone to keep the game going. In one SE3 game I played, this led to the largest empire trying to enforce the peace...

Re: What happens after victory?

So if one suddenly gets a message that the game has ended due to peace for such and such time (whoaw, realy, didn't we fight, I guess not...)
There is no way to continue even though everyone wants to? (Except rerun the turn and make a war, but can on ereuplaod a turn after the game is finished (won))?

What happens after victory?

In a PBW game. If the players wish to continue after the Win condition is met, i e peace for some time.
What happens then?

Re: What happens after victory?

The game ends.

As when a victory condition is met.

It is over.

So picking peace for x for y is a bad choice..

Re: What happens after victory?

Well, in single player you can continue on even after the victory; I imagine it would be the same multiplayer.

Re: What happens after victory?

Nope, you can't continue. Well you can keep playing turns, but some weird stuff doesn't work. Construction queues don't work. Repairs don't happen. Can't remember if combat can occur or nto. It's been a while since I tried it.

Re: What happens after victory?

Wa? How is this any different than starting a game with only one player, no AIs? Everything works fine there. Odd.

Simultaneous and sequential are not the same thing. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Re: What happens after victory?

Phoenix, I belive the difference is that fact that you are doing a game with no victory conditions. In a multiplayer simultaneous game with no victory conditions if you exterminate all of the other players I believe you CAN continue the game by yourself with no problems. Everything will work fine. Of course it will be a little lonely. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

But in a game with victory conditions, once they are met it appears some of the game functions simply cease to operate. The reason for this I believe is the game allows you "one more turn" so you can see all the scores and stuff and see who won. You can play beyond that point, but it doesn't allow you to do much. In a LMS game you know who won so the game code doesn't have to change anything.

Re: What happens after victory?

Ok, I did a little testing. Once victory conditions are met:

Ships can still move, use supply, get resupplied, engage in combat, be damaged, be destroyed.

They cannot be repaired. They can be retrofit, but the new components will not be repaired. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Resources will not accumulate or be used. If you are running a positive resource flow your resources in storage will not go up. If you are running a deficit because of ship maintenance you will never run out of resources. Not sure if you are already at zero and running in the red on reources if ships will still be abandonded. You can scrap of fire on to destroy ships though.

Nothing will be built in any queues, even though you can place thing in the queue and it will look like they are going to get done. But no work is ever done on them, similer to repair.

DId not test research or intelligence. I suspect they are the same. Resaerch is pointless since you can't build anything or upgrade facs anyway. Intel might have a use, although I doubt it will work.

You can change treaties with other players, but you will nto receive any trade income. Even though it will show on the balance sheet. Your resource storage totals dont' change form turn to turn.

I could see perhaps an interesitng way to finish off a game like this. Kind of a state of entropy. You will be stuck with whatever you have left at the end of the game. Able to destroy your opponenets planets and ships, but not to replace or repair those of your own that are damaged or destroyed.

Psychic insurection would be very valuable in such a finish, since it could capture enemy ships without needing to be repaired as boarding parties would. Intel as well if it worked. Need to test that sometime.

Re: What happens after victory?

An idea.
Start a PBW game, no one is allowed to do battle, the game "finishes after say 50 turns, size of galaxy dependant on number of players.

Then the one who has the Last ship surviving wins.
Or the one with most colonies at a fixed turn or...
Endless possibilitys.
