My good PF, May I suggest you download WinAce? It's such a good program. I've ditched WinZip as soon as I could.
If you decide to adopt WinAce, I'm willing to mail it to you, or even post it here.

Found out I needed to upgrade to newest Version of winzip. got it and now zipping some of the B5 stuff. Now my problem is that the shrapnel mod forum is choking on the zip file (it's ONLY 17 MB http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/image...s/rolleyes.gif )...

Try this:

Right click on the folder and click ADD TO ZIP.

See if that works for you.

I personally like WinRAR... has support for many, many more file formats too http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: How the heck does one..

my preference goes to winrar, i dont like winace. i have it somewhere and if i realy need i can use dos-based unpacker for ace, but .rar or .zip are far more common than .ace.

edit: still, i believe somewhere there is the button to compress file and folder structure as is. you do, however, need to right-click on the folder to compress it. (right click, winzip, you know from there)

My preference is WinAce. Kickass compression. Winrar is also very good.

WinRAR and WinAce compress about the same. It is just WinZip that sucks. It doesn't even make very well compressed (compared to other programs) Zip files...

Re: How the heck does one..

Using something else than Winzip for a web page is IMHO a mistake. (I'm generaly upset when I have to deal with a compression tool I don't have) Winzip has become a standard, it's efficient and it's free. For your personal use on your computer, choose whatever you want anyway.

To reply to the question, I usually put all files and folders I want to zip in a folder(let's call it "X").

With the windows explorer, right click on "X" -> add to zip. Without checking any option, the sub-directories of "X" will be saved in the zip file. The main folder "X" is the root of the zipped tree, and it doesn't appear when unzipping the files.

Exemple : to pack the "starship" shipset :

Winace (dunno about Winrar) has a feature in that it allows you to make the archive self extracting. Then the recipient doesn't need to have Winace installed in order to deal with the archive. He just has to know how to double click.

WinZip also makes self-extractors. First you make a normal .zip file, then you right-click on that file to create a self-extracting Version.

I usually don't like to open a .exe file that I've downloaded on an amateur and anonymous site... Basic Internet Use precaution.
I'd prefer a zip file, at least I know what is inside when I open it.
