(OT) How many times have you moved?

And moving in a sense of changing homes, not getting up from a game of SEIV to get a beer http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

I will be moving again some 50K's (31 miles) from where i'm living now. House is already sold, new house bought and by the end of the month i'm moving in. My wife and I are busy painting the whole place. It happens to be the house i grew up in (and so the town i grew up in). I'm not sad to leave the town here. Never liked it but we bought a house here because my wife worked here and we couldn't afford a second car so we had to move to a town close to her work or mine.

So first i moved from my home to a place i rented with my wife (was my GF back then). Then from there to the house we bought (in the same town). And now from this house to the new one.
That makes 3 moves in 5 years. Bought 2 houses. (Of course only 1 that i keep, i don't have money for 2 houses http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif )
And i hope i don't have to move for the time to come. I'm no big fan of painting.

I'm just worried about my internet connection. I hope this gets set up very soon because i'll go nuts without the internet.

England to NY about 10 years ago
NY to Des Moines (wife med school)
Des Moines to Milwaukee (wife residency)
Milwaukee to Knoxville, Tn in 2 weeks time.
I hate moving and am sick of it. This wont be the Last move as we are moving into (parents owned) rental property for a year, but it will be the Last state-to-state move.
I hate painting too :-)

Re: (OT) How many times have you moved?

As a kid, bounced around Southern California quite a bit, probably about 10 moves in five years. Then moved to Pennsylvania, and bounced around two more times there before settling down for twelve years, and my Last move was to LA for college... so approximately 14 moves in 19 years.

After college, or even during, who knows how many moves. And I'm not counting moving from dorms/apartments, they're all pretty much the same anyway. Studying for a semester at the University of Edinburgh is currently one option... The next decade or so, I won't exactly be settling in one place for to long, I think.

I've moved twice I believe. Once when I was too young to remember. Then moved from that place down to my current place 4 years ago. Its only 5 miles from my old place. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Here in Belgium most people don't move that much probably because Belgium is small (+-190 miles across).

4 times as a kid - always moving futher into the country in Victoria, Australia
Moved out of home to Melbourne.
Moved to Sydney CBD.
Moved to London, and lived in the middle of the Monopoly Board.
Built a new house in Melbourne.

Re: (OT) How many times have you moved?

I admire people who have the patience and the skills to build there own home. I would get too impatient to do this.

Painting small surfaces gets me upset already. As a result, this weekend my wife Banned me from painting the windows. I used too much paint on the small windows and now on some pieces of wood you can see traces of paint running down.
It just went to slow for me so i applied my own "painting" method. Guess the misses wasn't impressed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Re: (OT) How many times have you moved?

Once as a small child (San Antonio, TX to Colorado Springs, CO) (1).

I moved from my parent's house to an apartment with my first roommates (2). Then out of that apartment and into another (3). Then from that apartment into a rental house (4). Then from that rental house into another (5). Then recently from that rental house into my own house (6).

That's all.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Darn, and I was so set on giving detailed statistics on how many times I move during sex (a dwindling graph that somehow mimics my growth in age... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif )

Otherwise...since I spent 20 years in the army, I figure I have a pretty good rating on moves AND distance.

I got him as a gift for my wife in Augsburg, Germany, but it seemed he took a real liking to me.

Russia-USA-Russia-USA : Pushchino - Seattle (as student) - back to Pushchino - back to Seattle http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif
"Local" USA : Seattle - Austin (TX)
USA - UK : Austin - Manchester.

I HATE moving !!!

Oh, and I moved few times inside towns - 3 times in Seattle and two times in Austin. But that does not count.

Distance doesn't mean anything these days. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
A flight from Australia to the US is only 8-12 hours, which just happens to be the same amount of time that it takes to drive from Melbourne to Sydney, a distance of only 1000KM (600 miles???). http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Good luck minipol... I just dug my heels in as well. It feels like I struck gold - but - goodness gracious, the work never stops. I hope you have some favors to call friends on- to help out with some of the bigger projects.

Take your time. From what I hear the house will take you about 2 years to get it where you like it. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Hehehe good one. Yeah something like that. We are doing it in steps but we are going to live in it even while it's not finished. I'm so happy i can move that i even would have been happen if i moved to a cave (as long as it has internet connection :-)

We had some friends over to paint but there are reprecussions in doing so. If 10 people come over to help this will probably mean you will need to help those 10 people somewhere in the future too and since i don't like painting to begin with, i took the easy way out: i painted everything myself http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif It doesn't look to bad although an experienced painter might laugh at my "accomplishmlents" but "i did it my way"

So, how many years are you going to be painting ? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Just finished painting... except for touch-ups. Who knows when I'll get to them? Probably after the shoe molding.

We lived in here amongst boxes for quite a bit. A few of them still serve as furniture. So funny: we got a Tiffany's vase as a special present... and we'll probably put it on a cardboard box... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

My family has done the big move, from London to Melbourne, Via LA airport. I was surprised they allowed us on the plane with the amount of Coats, Bags & electrical goods (2 laptops, 2 Walkmans, 2 mobiles, Portable Sterio) that we were carrying. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

Of course it helped having an International Pilot as a friend, who was bringing us bags for months... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

Ha! I finally moved. Today the moving company started at 7 AM loading stuff, finished at 12.30 PM (only took them 5.30 h!!). I just finished reinstalling the closets (spelling?), bed and so on and it's only 4 PM!
I'll be playing SEIV again tonight. Woohoo.

I also had a job interview today. What a hectic day. The move and the job interview went well!
The company where i went looks very interesting AND they have a lot of vacation. 39.5 days. Can you imagine that. Re: (OT) How many times have you moved?

Every time I move, it gets harder because I've accumulated more stuff each time. When I first moved out from Mom and Dad's house, all of my possessions fit in the car, and only one trip was necessary. I had my clothes, books, a small table, and a chair. That was it. I moved three times since then. The first time, I needed a few car trips. The second time, I needed several car trips and a van. The third time, I needed a truck. I suspect that the next time, I might need a couple of trips with a truck...
