#se4 Guests

Hi everyone.

Sorry about the se4 guest speakers and open topics being a little slow latey.

I have had a few bumps in the road.... But things are improving time wize for me to start this back up.

Last week on wed. we talked about the Balance mod.

This week will be part two of the balance mod with Sj hosting the topic.... ( if it spills into a 3rd week then so be it ... )

Upcoming guests are

Rollo - AI space monsters
Geo - PBW
Tesco - SE Modding tool and step by step making mods
Aaron - Starfury

Possible guest
PVK , Oleg JLS - AI modding

Now some questions

1. If you would like to be a guest speaker on se4 let me know
2. If you would like to recommend someone or topics for conversation let me know. I can approach people for speaking.

I would like to see Ruatha on there for the newbie questions

Ed , Baron and Andre for the history of SE games... ( I know there is more of ya but i am at work and these are the first 3 names that come to mind )

SJ - Any topic he wishes to talk about

Gandalph on ship sets ( design class )

AT back to do a design class on ships as well

Kwok and DG to do future design topics.

Some topics I would like to dicuss ( looking for a guest speaker on them )

1. How to build your empire Part 1( setup of empire pre 2400.0 )
2. How to build your empire Part 2( initial openning turns to first contact )
3. Ship building
4. Infrastructure
5. Mod Authors to come on and talk about their mods , current mods and future releases
6. Modding concepts ( from drawing board to release)
7. Modding do's and don'ts
8. Ship combat
9. Newbie faq
10. Tricks of the trade and other Strategy Articles.
11. Other Shrapnel game developers and Other Space Strategy game developers on to talk about their games ( Storm Clouds hint hint )

Again. This is for the community... So please let me know what i can do.

Thank you in advance for your thoughts and suggestions.

Well I can talk about newbie questions, I have plenty of them, but few answers though http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif

Wow- you got AAron on board? Nice!!!
[dream]
Any chance we can get him to comment on our SE5 wish list?!?! That would ROCK!

With no obligations, of course... he can pick and choose and let us know if any of our suggestions made it to the "limelight."

He can also pick some and comment on feasibility, perhaps?

[/dream]

Just throwing it out there...

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Sure, I'd be glad to speak on the history of the SE games, though I admit my personal experience is mostly with the SE2 demo and SE4 http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif Oh well, I guess I can do some research... you want anything prepared or will this be sort of a Q&A session like Fyron did when he spoke (I missed the other 2 speakers http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif well OK the 2nd speaker I can't remember who he was but I do know I wasn't particularly interested in his topic, but the 3rd I honest-to-God missed http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

And like Stone Mill said... wow, you got Aaron to come and speak - and about STARFURY?!? http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif That will be a night to remember! (Now I'll just have to remember to keep my mouth shut and try not to "help out" answering those prying questions http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/tongue.gif )

Have we forgotten about the #se4 Web Site?

Re: #se4 Guests

Wow, I'm honored that you would include me.

Ship set design class???
If you're talking about creating ship sets, I have 2 Doga's and a cut and paste from another proggy. Atrocities would be the one to invite for this.

If you're talking about designing your ship layout, component speaking, in game, I still get surprised by the multitude of different ways to configure a ship.

I am familiar with many different aspects of this game; AI making, shipset making, Modding, and playing; but I don't know if I qualify in any one area enough to be a guest speaker. I like to think of myself as an alien of all trades, and a master jedi of none. If you would still like me to field questions at one of your sessions, I will do my best.

EDIT _ For instance, I just found out that fighter bays can land troops to conquer a planet.

<font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">Yeah, that is the problem with totally generic cargo bays... the game needs some sort of "drop troops" ability that adds to the max kT of troops you can drop in a combat.

Gand you make fantastic ships.

Also Kwoks skool of Planet Design was a perfect format for the guest speakers if they wish to run a workshop or tutorial.

Or you can just chat.

Both styles are great.
