Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
Just recieved my copy of SE4 Last wednesday an have installed all the extras on it. aside from having put all the races into the pictures folder, is there a way for me to get the multimod program to run multimod as I've very confused on how to use it.

I have not heard of a "Multimod"...
Perhaps you mean the mod launcher? - You can edit path.txt to switch mods manually; the mod launcher lets you click to pick and run the mod. Or do you mean installing multiple mods? Or do you mean combining more than one mod and using them at the same time? |

Re: Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
There are only a few mods which work together, and don't change the same files.
There is no program to merge mods, and even humans would have a very tough time with it. Now, for the big name mods that do work well with others: - FQM standard (generate the map, then load the map for play in almost any other mod) - TDM (Changes AIs, not datafiles, plus adds some strategies and formations) Works with mods that don't change the base files too much. - Single-file mods (usually named after the file they change) usually fits adequately after some copy & paste or tweaking. Pirates & Nomads has extensive changes, but I have written an AI Patcher program to tweak TDM and other standard SE4 AIs into P&N-usable form. Look for it in the P&N download section. Other modders will surely chime in now http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif |
Re: Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
Don't forget the Ultimate Strategies Mod, which can be merged with any mod in existence. Just backup the Default Stratgies and Formations text files in the Data folder of the mod in question, and then copy those similarly named files from USM into the mod.
You might want to get ahold of the Design Names Anthology, which is not a mod, but a collection of well over 300 design name files. Naturally, it can be used in any mod or stock SE4 without any problems. |
Re: Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
Don't forget about mount mods, image mods, sound mods...things that don't really alter that many files but can add a little spice to the game!
(Assuming that you aren't like me and completely hopeless at things like numbering stupid planets...grumble grumble) |
Re: Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
if you put something in an array, it wastes a space if you start at 1.

Re: Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
So then you write a simple line of code that subtracts one from the number that is in the data file when it displays an image. Other files apparently do this; just a few have this mistake in them.

Re: Multimod and you, or more correctly, me
so, order of image numbers when counting: 1,2,3
order of numbers in the program : 0,1,2 doesn't that still leave you with a problem? |
