Map editor question
Does anyone know how to correctly set a race starting point if their are 2 planets in the same sector?
Ie I've got the Earth and the Moon. My Race keeps starting on the Moon and the name Moon shows up when the planet names are on. Edit: The name Moon shows up but the picture of the Earth not the moon is what u see??? [ September 21, 2003, 13:39: Message edited by: DavidG ] |
Re: Map editor question
Can't help much there. The editor is REALLY lacking IMHO and I hate using it for much of anything. SOMEONE could really re-write that thing and make it SO useful. I remember creating DOOM II levels with amateur-supplied "editors" that were easier to use than this professionally-supplied editor. They should make more use of wizards for certain things...especially warp hole creation and linking. Also, it seems the map is even displayed 90 degrees off what it appears like in the game. That sucks, too.
The editor for "that other game" that I can't remember (that Gryphin plays a lot) was MUCH easier to use. You know, the game with the tanks, infantry, transports, planes, bombers, etc...I forget the name now, but it was SOOOO easy to make a map for it. |

Things the map editor needs: - command to add a system by slecting its type (ie Standard would come complete with planets (or whatever else is called for in the txt file) - add warp points by click on two system - in the system window allow planets etc to be draged to new location. - command to add random planet. (with random values) |
Re: Map editor question
that would be nice... send him an email....
warp point , system creation , grid creation and drag and drop are what i would love to see. |
Re: Map editor question
... and some way to control which name displays, and which planet image displays, when you have a planet and moons in the same sector. I always seem to get one of the moon images displayed along with the name of the primary planet, or else I can get the planet image but it the name that shows will be A or B or whatever, the name of one of the moons.

Like, clicking on a link in the "galaxy" view and having the two systems that it connected pop up (and then allowing one to drag the hole in each sytstem to where one wanted and change the attributes of either hole). Notice, DRAGGING is one of the main "goodies" it should have. |
Re: Map editor question
I think you have to add the moons and the planet in the correct order... try deleting them and adding them in the opposite order you did the first time.

Re: Map editor question
Yup. I've seen this too. The order of placement is very important.
