New Year at PBC!

Play By Committee has begun its 5th year to a bright Katchooary morning.

Come by to check on your planets, ships and ministries if you have them!

New players are always welcome; we can always use more military captains, planetary governors, and there is a minister position or two open in the government.
Experience with SE4 is not required. Simply run your own little piece of the empire and share in the glory.

There are plenty of people around to help with any difficulties or questions you may have.

This is going to be a silly question, but... Where could one learn more about what is Play by Commitee? I have heard this name before, and with your summary, I can guess what it is, but I have to admit it is basically all I know about this game.
Thanks in advance. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

one empire, many people. about a turn a week, though participation has been slowing down lately. we had some politics and assassination attempts a while back, and i managed to steal some ships once - without being noticed.

but we need some fresh blood to get it going again! come join the game, and we can get some more action started.

Re: New Year at PBC!

I have a game of SE4 running on my PC, using a slight mod which adds some roleplaying components and stuff.
Mostly troop-based avatars for all the players, basically a location marker, but military officers can also go down with the troops and actually fight aliens on planets.

The forum is where all the politicking goes on, and is where I post the savegames.
The savegames aren't completely nessesary, but do help a lot in knowing what's going on.
Players can post their orders in a special forum thread, which I use to generate the next turn.

It sounds really interesting, I will have a closer look at the forum when I am back. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif

What positions are open at the moment? You mentioned ministers, but what kind of ministry? And what are the functions of a planet governor? Thanks in advance. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif *Resumes his learning of the Art of Blackmail, the twenty ways of assassinating someone and other peaceful skills*

Re: New Year at PBC!

I would be interested in a Planetary governor position. (As Geo must know by now, I would make a very, very poor science minister. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif ) As long as I am not on a remote, unbreathable moon that is. (Although this could be leading to an unhappy officer, leading to other things more interesting. *Hint hint*)

Re: New Year at PBC!

Science Minister:
The science minister needs to keep the research queue filled, at a minimum.
In doing so, you'll probably find the minister of defense and the minister of finance are the most interested in your choices http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

If you plan ahead and keep a couple of projects lined up, you'll have less to worry about, but you'll still need to check in at your office every now and then to see if there is anybody clamouring for your attention. It also helps to keep up to date on potential ruins tech, and any alien ships which would be valuable to analyse.

Planetary Governor:
You can pick any planet you'd like to govern, as long as there isn't already a local governor. You are encouraged to find a planet not covered by a System Lord, but that is not always possible.
You may even want to collect some colony ships and set out to find a new system to develop all by yourself.

In the planet forums, you will see that the moderator list will have two entries. One will be the player, and the second will be the state of that player's rule.
(Local Governor) - This planet has someone ruling it already, and is not available.
(System Lord) - This planet is semi-available. There is no Local Governor for this particular planet, but it is currently managed by the System Lord. System Lords manage traffic through their systems, and have most of the local governor rights for otherwise-ungoverned planets in the system.
(Construction Minister) - There is no Local Governor, and No System Lord in this system to manage the planet. Control of the planet thus defaults to the construction minister. If you decide to become governor of this planet, you can also become System Lord, and manage all the other ungoverned planets.

As a citizen, your avatar can give direct orders to any ship it is aboard.

As an Officer of the Navy, your avatar can give orders to any ships under your command and in the same sector, both strategically, and during Tactical Combat. (Tactical Combat makes officers extremely valuable in time of war http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )
You must be housed in Officer's Quarters or better in order to exercise these powers.

As a Local Governor, you control any stationary, non-military objects in the sector. This includes moons and construction bases in particular. Only 2/3rds majority senate votes can override your orders on your own planet.
You must be housed in VIP Quarters or better in order to exercise these powers.

As a System Lord, you get Local Governor control over any planets in your system of authority that do not have local governors. In addition, you have some authority over ships passing through your system, and can command other non-military installations that are not in orbit of a planet.
This would include remote miners, spaceyard bases and cargo bases at warppoints, etc.

PS:
After you sign up, post in the recruitment forum so I can get you set up properly.
Once your permissions have been set, you can make a post in the pre-election lounge as to which planet or system you're going to run for.
(You'll probably be the only candidate, so don't worry about the election part http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif )

Alright. If it would be allowed, I'll take Science.

Re: New Year at PBC!

SJ, sorry to bother you, but could you give a few details about the military positions? I read the thread concerning the recruitements in the military, and this... well, kind of job may interest me. But I am not sure as there are also Planet Governors and... *Will decide with heads or tails* What are the duties of a military officer, his field of competency and so on?

However, you mentioned having to be often Online on any IM program to be a military officer. I would believe I am Online fairly often (understatement meaning a few hours a day) but since we are not in the same time zone, it may be a problem if we cannot be Online at the same moment.
