PBW and Colonization Tech sharing

Im here thinking... as it seems, in larger pbw's its a common thing to exchange colony techs. Well, being the roleplayer i am, i dont want to share my Gas Colony tech. But there are more players - does refusing to trade this tech eventually put me in a disadvantage?
If so, thats rather wrong.

I suppose it depends on the victory conditions and any conditions that were stated at the time the game was created.
If it is a roll-playing game, then their should be a reason why you would, but for a team victory - go for it.

Yet another reason for Ed Kolis' Colony Tech Mod to be made a standard for PBW (and SEV)...

If they don't then the problem isn't playing multiplayer, but who you are choosing to play multiplayer against.

My point simply was and is there is nothing "wrong" inherantly with colony tech trading itself. You have every right to dislike it, and I agree with you if you do. So play against people who agree and let the ones that want to trade colony tech play against each other.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Making it a standard would be a mistake. However if anyone want's it as a mod I can certainly set it up on PBW. Noone has asked to my recollection. Although it is incorporated in a couple other mods on PBW IIRC.

For example, if you were playing a rock race - you'd have to pick "Rock Natives" trait in order to get the rock colony module. It costs no points, just prevents you from being able to trade your tech in the same way a temporal race can't trade their techs to someone who doesn't have the temporal trait.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">But you can research the other atmosphere techs? Disallowing that would take an important feature from the game, I think. Plus, the problem can also be solved by generally disallowing trades, which I prefer anyway.

Re: PBW and Colonization Tech sharing

Yes, you can still research the other techs. You just can not trade the starting one. Also, you can still trade researched colony techs (ice and gas for a rock race) to other races that have the same HW type. So, two rock races could swap some researched ice and gas colony techs. But, you can not trade researched colony techs with a race with a different HW type. So, a rock and gas race could not trade ice colony tech, for example.
