NASY Down

For some unknown and yet even more evil reason Spaceports shut down New Age Ship Yards on the 28th of this month. After many emails and several threats I finally received this email.

Quote:

*******THIS E-MAIL CONTAINS INSTRUCTIONS ON REACTIVATING YOUR ACCOUNT
*******THE TECHNICAL SUPPORT CHAT DOES NOT HANDLE BANDWIDTH REACTIVATIONS

Greetings,

Your Spaceports account, william@galileo.spaceports.com, was disabled because
it exceeded the maximum monthly transfer limit of 1 GB.

If your site has outgrown our transfer limits, you can upgrade to five
gigabytes of monthly transfer by paying for ad removal.
Thank you.

I have already emailed them a copy of the visa bill and original confirmation email. Hopefully they will update their files and re-enable NASY soon. If not, I will find another hosting site and start all over yet again. I would go with the one Fyron was using, but look at what happened to him.

I think we can start a nice little list of Webhosting compies to avoid.

Actually... the web host I am currently using is working on getting all non-profit sites restored for free from the old server. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

God I hope so Fyron. Your site is on of the best on the net.

Have they said anything about protecting sites from a shut down like this in the future?

Spaceports has been great thus far, but what they did here kinda sucks arse.

I have not had any bad experiences with Spaceports, but then, I never went over bandwidth limits. It is probably just that a random glitch in their systems caused your account to not be shown as having had ads removed and bandwidth increased. Or they were being malicious. I can not say. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

I don't think they were being mean, just difficult. They would not tell me why the site was down and then all of a sudden they offer an over the bandwidth excuse when I bought two years of no ads up front. They have not responded to my Last few emails. I am now growing concerned.

Re: NASY Down

I'm familar with such a tactic. Often webhosts will can websites, paying customers or not, over unrelated concerns or bandwidth.

I'm willing to bet bandwidth got chewed up and this delayed reply is just a lame and polite way to say, "sorry, we don't want you as a customer unless you pay us more."

I'm sure you're familiar with the shutdown of Ex Astris Scientia back in march/april of this year. The owner of that site was paying for unlimited bandwidth and they canned him on a totally unrelated Terms of Use violation.
