Tactical Combat Bug?

I'm playing SP Proportions... and I built a couple armed ships, one a CSM-I escort, and the other a Acid Glob I armed scout. But in combat, they run away! I put them in combat with an unarmed plant, and an unarmed colony ship, and instead of attacking, they go hide. So I have to resolve combat manually. I have no idea why this is... I even put one in a fleet so I could set the fleet strategy, but it didn't seem to help. Is there some setting somewhere to make your armed ships fight or not fight in automatic tactical resolution?

I have the save file, if that would be helpful.

Did you change any of the strategies from default?

Huh, changing the ship design strategy solved the problem. But it is very strange (and confusing to new players) for ship designs to default to "don't get hurt". Is there any way to change the default?

Thanks for help me out, by the way!

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I thought if you classified them as Attack ships, they defaulted to "Optimal"....can't remember exactly 'cause I'm at work right now.

Anyone confirm / disprove this?

Oh, one was classified as scout, but armed... and the other was classified as "missile boat", which is a classification that I always add so that I don't confuse my missile boats with direct fire boats. In SEIV 1.49, ships always seemed to attack by default.

Perhaps in the future I should classify everything that attacks as an attack boat, but it would be nice to specify a default strategy per design type.

You can set strategies for each ship design in the designs screen. Check the strategies that you have set there.
