More modding questions
 
I read through the modding FAQ, which was very helpful, and showed how to make which changes. But it did NOT explain the ramifications.

So what I really want to know is this:

I'm altering Devnull to be a little more Proportions-ish. If I add new components, like "Armored Structure", and I just stick the, somewhere in components.txt, will that mess up the AI? Will the AI just ignore them, make use of them, or accidentally design ships stupidly because a new component is available?

Secondly, I want to reduce the number of engines on Colony Ships, so they'll go slower. But if I change the maximum number of engines from 5 to 3, will that mess up the AI? For example, does the AI have pre-made ship designs with 5 engines that it will be suddenly unable to use?

The ramifications on the AI are too broad and varied (and dependant on just what you are doing) to make it very difficult to explain them in general, except to say, whatever you do, will probably confuse the AI. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif
