Computer Virus Defence

Is there any way to defend against computer virus attack?

Oh, in SEIV? I thought you meant with real-world computers, at first.

Aside from avoiding getting hit, or killing the attacker first, or not having any master computers, the only defense is to add bridge/life support/crew quarters to the ship, so if the master computer dies, there is no adverse effect (except the loss of 10 structure points).

For example, a dreadnought with a master computer can have a bridge and just one life support and crew quarters component. It is then effectively immune to computer virus and allegiance subverter, and has a little more space available than a ship without an MC, although it will cost a bit more. In the unmodded game, that is.

Is there actually any advantage on adding just one component of each? To work properly, DR needs IIRC 3 crew quarters, 3 life support and one bridge. However, I'm not sure this applies in combat.

With a few of the components PVK mentioned to add could get you an increased minimum speed if the MC is lost.

I believe you only need one bridge/crew quarter/life support for a ship to work properly, but you won't be able to save the design if the ship needs more than one of each. (Except if you have a MC obviously)

Exactly, Alneyan. The extra LS/CQ required by large hulls only applies during design, not during combat. The MC obviates the need for any LS/CQ during design. The move penalty is avoided by having just one component with the LS or CQ ability.

Re: Computer Virus Defence

You only lose movement when you have either no working MC on the ship, or you have 0 non-destroyed of Bridge, LS, or CQ (each is treated separately, for different amounts of movement loss). If you have a ship design that requires 30 LS and CQ (in a mod, ofc), then you have to put that many on the ship to make a design (assuming no MC). You get no penalty to movement as long as you have at least 1 LS and at least 1 CQ. Having 29 of each destroyed on that ship leaves you with full movement.
