Thought, system claiming

I once saw my game 'ownership' a black hole and nebulae systems near my space. How did that ever happen? is it first found = ownership?

Re: Thought, system claiming

You can claim any system by clicking on it in the Borders window. (Even a system you haven't seen - then you can't see your claim! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/shock.gif ) If the "claim colonized systems" is on, all systems colonized by your empire will be claimed. An AI empire will claim all systems it colonizes, and (IIRC) all adjacent systems.

I keep on forgetting about this feature of SE4G. Can't you claim a system just by colonizing a planet, or do you have to go through the below method?

Re: Thought, system claiming

Every year or so I like to make a sweep and claim anything near my space that I didn't automatically claim, and doesn't belong to a race I'm in alliance/armstice with. (Meaning things like asteroid belts where I have a presence, I claim so the others will know to stay out.)

This game, there's a red giant in a fairly worthless contested system on my right-hand border. Hehe.
