Do you play non-PC/console space combat games ?
I was just wondering if anyone here plays space combat games outside the computer.
Me, I love Silent Death and own most of the supplements, but I rarely play it. Instead, I play my homemade Star Wars variant using Micro Machines miniatures from the 80s and 90s. I've also played a game or two of Twilight Imperium and tried my hand at the Starblazers miniatures game (said to be a Star Fleet Battles spinoff). A long time ago, I used to play Starfleet Tactical Simulator, by FASA. How about the rest of you ? |

I used to play FASA's Star Trek game. I still have all of my stuff. I used to dabble in Star Fleet Battles, but it was too technical for me, so I never bought any of the books. I wish I was still gaming, because there sure is a lot of stuff out there, but I haven't played a pen & paper game in 10 years.

I used to play Star Fleet Battles, and I've played some other spaceship board games such as Warp War, Imperium, and Star Fighter (currently in my car trunk - not sure where to store it).
I believe I saw some folks playing Silent Death at this year's Dragonflight - looked intriguing. PvK |

Full Thrust is a good one, and the company that makes it also makes two other superb games for armored vehicle combat and squad level combat (Dirtside 2 and Stargrunt 2).

Re: Do you play non-PC/console space combat games ?
Silent Death is very much fun first and physics second, but most people who try it like it.
I am curious about Full Thrust, I have heard nothing but praise for it. Oh yes, I also own Slag!, but never played it. The rules are intriguing but it feels like the ship design part is more fun than the space battle part. |

FASA also had a Battletech game that involved space combat. Can't remember the name of it now, but I should still have it in storage with the rest of my stuff. It was an ok game, but I preferred the actual tech combat on land.

It's called Battlespace IIRC. It has undergone several changes in the pat years but I don't like it that much. To few choices to influence the battle for me.

Re: Do you play non-PC/console space combat games ?
I have the box. Aerotech was the first FASA space combat game. They made another later, I think it was jsut called Jumpships and Dropships. They were both ... heavy.
The Areospace map had little arrows on it to indicate the way your ship was affected by gravity, it was actually very clever. Just... complicated. |
