OT - Homeworld 2
 

I have got the original Homeworld, and bought the Homeworld Catacyclism, which was nice if only for the music and arabesque chanting, but has anyone bought Homeworld 2, and if so, would they reccomend it?

does anyone have Hidden and Dangerous 2 by the way? that is brilliant

I didn't know HW 2 was actually released, I thought it was in development. Where are some reviews? I didn't buy the original, but I did get Cataclysm and thought it was decent for a 'real time' game. Much more playable than garbage like Warcraft/Starcraft. It got boring after a while, though. Not enough variation (a single linear campaign!) and difficult to mod.

anyway, i tried the cataclysm demo and didn't like it. homeworld 1 is great, though. still a linear campaign, but it's got something cataclysm doesn't. i havn't played the homeworld 2 demo much, just one of those things i'll do when i get a round tuit...

I have homeworld 2 and have beaten the campaign. I have also beaten HW1 and HW: Cata (cata sucked and was aptly named cataclysm because it was one).

Okay I'll rate how it is via a numbers system as follows you know the typical 1-10 scale:

Storyline: 4 (story after mission 13 sucked)

Gameplay: 10 (the gameplay is the most kickass space RTS ever!)

Special Effects: 8 (because of some of the texturing jobs it lacks a nice metallic look but the ships still rock)

Battles: 10 (when you see your fleet closing with the enemy and firing vollies of torpedoes and ion beams as your fighters dodge in and out dogfighting the enemy you almost think your watching a movie.)

AI: 8 It's rather intelligent as AIs go but it makes some of the typical AI mistakes like overbuilding on the easily destroyed units instead of the big guns.

Overall I'd recommend it for someone who prefers skirmishes and on-line play instead of just playing it for the rather sub par storyline.
