OT: viruses
i seem to be having some trouble with a virus. it's called the franriv.worm, i'm using mcafee and when it gets into the .CPY files in the \_RESTORE\TEMP directory, it's impossible to clean, delete or quarentine. i've even tried opening them up with wordpad and deleting the contents, but it comes up with an access violation. any suggestions?
and \TEMP is a hidden directory and won't show itself, even though my settings are to show hidden files and folders. which \_RESTORE is to, and it shows up fine. so, i can't manually add them to quarentine and then delete them, since that has proven possible with other stubbern files. Re: OT: viruses
It might be possible to delete the items in the ..\_restore\temp folder if you boot from floppy with a system boot disk. just navigate to the dir and del *.*
I haven't had problems with a virus, but sometimes a program will install and not completely uninstall. It will leave files on the computer that the system will not allow me to delete. Usually with an "Access denied" message. This boot from floppy always allows me to delete the nasty files. The 'access' errors are a windows thing, so when in DOS it can be overridden. (FYI: opening a DOS prompt in windows will not work because windows is still running.) I hope this helps.
