help with mods

I love playing SE4, I love all the new mods for the game, but I am a mewbie when it comes to computers .I don't understand how to download Image Mod so I have planets instead of white spaces in STM 1.3.2, and when I tried to download 1.3.4 patch now I'm having problems with it! I know this all sounds stupid to some people but some of us need a detailed disription on how to download and carry over to SE4 file especially when you change routing. As I said we love game and very much enjoy the mods for SE4 but only if we can use them . Thank you for time and send istructions !

Re: help with mods

I cannot answer about the Star Trek Mod, but here are a few instructions about the Image Mod:

* Go to any of the mirrors for the Image Mod, for example Fyron's one
* You have to download the latest packs labelled Components (Version 17), Planets (9), Combat (9) and Facilities (10). These files are labelled as being the full Versions. (The patches wouldn't work as it is the first time you download this image pack)
* There are detailed instructions available in each file if you are confused about what to do later. Basically you have to extract the files you have downloaded to the directory ".../SE/Pictures/***" where *** stands for the name of the file. That is to say, you will have to extract the Planets file into the Pictures/Planets directory, and so on.

I hope it will help you, from another quite illiterate when it comes to computers. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Sounds like you found the downloads, and are almost there.

As stated below, you need the Full install, rather than the patch.
For the planetpack, as it sounds like you want, you should dump the entire contents of the planetpack into your c:\MM\se4\pictures\planets\ folder.
This will overwrite your planets.bmp, and add almost a thousand portraits.

It works similarily for components, facilities and combat.

http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon7.gif Most mods, including the STM all have files such as Installation or Read-Me that give you vital information.

The reason the files are not posted as self extracting programs is because I got a lot of emails from people telling me they will not run such a program. (Fears of virus and such.)

So if you read the installation text that came with the Star Trek mod you will find that it has answers to many issues.

I hope the ST mod is working well for you and that you enjoy playing it.

AT, those people are just being silly. They can run a virus scan on the file if they are that paranoid. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif And, it is just as easy to embed a virus into a zip or rar file as it is into an exe.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">And don't do what I did. I was having a major brain fart, and was putting all of the pictures into my components folder, instead of splitting them up accordingly. I was doing this for about 2-3 weeks when I realized what I was doing. I still don't know if I got all of the appropriate pictures in their correct folders. I don't feel like going through all of my downloaded files, as they're so many of them, and most of them are labeled with those numbers that are generated instead of a proper name, and I'd have to go through them again to find out what is in each file. So just be careful in that regard.
