Three sided Dice..

Geo, I remember a set of dice I had with a three sided die.
It was a triangular tube with the rounded ends. (like the 4 sided die, the face sitting on the table/floor was the one that counted.)
fyi: it was not much bigger than the D6 cube die. just about 1x1x1.5.
I can draw you a pic if you would like.

Cheers! http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif

P.S. I also seem to remember that my old 'Risk' game with the wooden pieces had some short triangular sticks for the armies.
One of those could easily be made into a three sided die.

Nuf said. Cheers again.

..connect the dots to make triangular tabs on the ends.
cut out the shape, then fold along the dash'd lines.
tape the edges and voila.

Test.. yes, very wierd, the body of the text in my first post is up against the avatar pic, and this post is indented (normal)

gee, how'd I do that?

Aaah, I found the culprit.. I had too much text on one line in the 'code' section. I edited it onto several lines and all is well.

That was sureal for a few moments. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

Yeah, I remember those Risk pieces. Can't remember if they counted as 10 armies or 5 (it's been so long).

I thought that's what you're supposed to use...

How about a 1-sided die? You know, for determining if those Talisman shots will hit...

Slick.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">A die for the Talisman is a chit with the words "Hit" on both sides.

Edit: or maybe MC Escher or David E. Gervais could create one

Re: Three sided Dice..

I was thinking more of a sphere with "Hit" written all over it.

You want to make a true 1-sided die? Cut a strip of paper, say 1/2" x 1'. Hold both ends and give 1 end a half-turn then tape the ends together. 1-side! and 1-edge!!!

Proof of 1 side: grab a pencil and start drawing a line down the strip. Soon you will be back where you started, having covered all of the surface.

Proof of 1 edge: do same thing along 1 edge.

Slick.

Re: Three sided Dice..

Speaking of sphere dice, I found a site selling them. Perfect spheres with the dots on six sides just like a regular six sided die. And they are supposed to work like regular dice where one side always comes up.

Apparently how they work is they are hollow with a cubical cavity inside and a ball bearing. The bearing will always come to rest in one of the corners, causing that side to be down.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">I had a set of those when I was the "every-popular" dungeon master a long time ago. And, yes, that's how they worked.
