SE4 World Championship ?

SPACE EMPIRES IV WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP PROJECT

First thing sorry for my bad english, but I’m italian, so I’ll tro to explain myself to the best of my ability…

Main Porpouses

The porpouses of this project are, in order of importance :

1) Have a real Space Empires IV web community championship that challenges the ability of all players in different kinds of game setups and play situations.
2) Have a system of rules that permits players to auto-control the Championship regularity without the need of full time judges, controllers etc.

System of Play

All Space Empires IV World Championship games will be played throught the Play by Web server using the PBW system. All games will be created and mantained by a host (randomly chosen among all the game players). Players will be responsible of their game conduct, under host supervision.

Championship Formula

The championship has two phases. The first phase qualifies for the second.
1) First Phase : Each player will play for different games contemporary, each game will be carachterized by unique settings. When all games finish, a final ranking between all players will be calculated.
2) Second Phase : The first 20 players of the final ranking will challenge each others in the final game. The winner of the final game is, obviously, the winner of the Championship.

First Phase Detailes

Each player subscripted to the World Championship will play the First Phase. The first phase will be based on 4 different games played with 6 players on a small map. The composition of each individual game will be randomly chosen, so each player will be different opponents in each game. The 4 games played will be :

a FINITE RESOURCES game : Economical management will be tested with this particular game when you will be asked to build an empire with limited resources in a old quadrant with only a few good systems.
a MOD (the mod must be selected by organizers for this one) : To test the ability of a player in jumping from a play situation to another.
a TECH game : Reach 50% of all techs, testing your diplomacy ability and your ability in direct all your empire to one single porpouse : Technology
a DEATHMATCH game : All tech game, all versus all and a lot of blood Last! Only the worst mother****er guy will win this game!

Second Phase Detailes

The second phase game will be a Last man standing match played on a large galaxy. The first 20 players of the final ranking will play this game. The winner of the Final Game will be the only SE4 World Championship Winner.

Game Justice (cheat)

-Each players bad behaviour, attempt to cheat etc will be judged by a Commission. The Commission will be randomly composed by 7 other players Subscribed to the game. If the Commission estabilish that the player sub-judice is trying to cheat, the player is immediately kicked out from the Championship.

Now

Now, these are the cruel ideas, if someone want to cooperate to this project, he/she can email directly to me replying this e-mail. The rules are only at a primitive state, now, and we need discussions and details in order to manage any possible situation.
Web designing and management is also necessary in order to create a web site that assures the players subscription (automatic) and the championship status.

I hope somone will considered the idea,

Hi Mauro.
Your English is pretty good, so I wouldn't worry about that, your spelling is not to hot, but then again, can't spell correctly either and English is my language. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif
You have checked out the Ratings, KOTH and some of the other Tournies that have taken place?
The only downside to this idea, that I see is the amount of time. Each game would take awhile and for the Last 20 person game, even on 48 hours would still take months to finish.

Re: SE4 World Championship ?

It is a good idea. I suggested something similar with the SEIV Olympics. That didn't fly either:
1) Lack of intereste
2) Overwhelming obisticals
3) I missunderstood the responce I got.

I wish you luck with this.

Re: SE4 World Championship ?

Knoble idea, but I don't think it will go far because of past attempts to do simular things.

Besides, we all know who the top five winners would be.

Baron Garzic :
I wouldn't care of the amount of time. Also the Chess world championships go long without a time limit... strategy games naturally need long times in order to estabilish the REAL winner. Yes, i put my eye on some of the other tournaments, i think that KOTH system is not a good system and that's because the 1 vs 1 games are completely different from the usual 5-10-15-20 players games...

The best five players ?
Obviously my brother ! He's the best player i had ever met, he easily defeats me, and i'm a good experienced ex beta tester player.
Another incredible player ? Thomas Pfister! I encountered him only once, but he hit me a lot. However, only a real challenge may say us who is the best player ;-D

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">You got that right (well, the part about me, anyways). I don't really care about being the best or any of that bunk. I only joined survivor 2 cause it has the potential to get really... screwey... in the later stages. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

There are a bunch of people you missed there AT... http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon12.gif

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">But think 1 vs 1 is more fair to determine who is the best player in terms of SEIV skills.
Sure, in games with more players does exist other elements, like diplomacy of course. But very often, I saw 2 or more guys attacking other, just because they think he's the best player, or just because he had the bad luck to do not find an ally.

IMHO, the SE4 Rating System and KOTH are the best way to measure the skill of the players.

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">Think you should join to the SE4 Rating system and play 1vs1 games or a game with 5-10-15-20 players: you may find many other great players...

<font size="2" face="sans-serif, arial, verdana">The SE4 Rating System and KOTH are also good structures for generating games.

Mauro, one of the problems with triathlons is that the required events limit the potential pool of participants and severely limit the pool of potentially interested participants. IMO, your range of events might be similarly constraining. http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon9.gif

He's scientific about everything...just take a look at his Posts...he analyzes the game to pieces! For all of the people I have played with (or have begun to rely on reputations),I think he and Rex are the best. I think their gameplay differs a bit but I suspect they could team as a pair and challenge any other pair around and win most any game.

(apologies to anyone slighted by my comment...I just haven't had the privilege...or misfortune...to meet you yet http://forum.shrapnelgames.com/images/icons/icon10.gif )
